The Chevrolet Spark Fully Equipped for Fun

Affordable doesn’t mean boring. Spark may have a starting price lower than a limbo stick after five rounds, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t offer all the tech and gadgets that make buying a new ride so euphoric. Of course you want alloy wheels, power windows and air conditioning. And you’ll get it, standard on any model.

Did you know…To run a 100-watt light bulb 24 hours a day for a year we need to use about 714 pounds of coal in coal powered power plant. Did you know...One liter of regular gasoline is the time-rendered result of about 23.5 tons of ancient organic material deposited on the ocean floor. Did you know...At current usage, the coal supply will last 1500 years. How-ever at a 5% growth rate the coal supply will last only 86 years.

Quiz Answers from Front Page

1) Steam

French engineer and mechanic

Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot in 1769

designed the first "horseless" car-

riage, used by the French Army

artillery, which ran on a steam en-

gine. It was so heavy that it could

move no faster than 2.5 miles (4

kilometers) per hour.

2) 1830’s

In the 1830s, Robert Anderson of

Scotland, Vermont blacksmith

Thomas Davenport, and Dutch in-

ventor Sibrandus Stratingh built

carriages, carts, and motors that are

seen as forerunners to the electric

car.

3) About 14-26 percent.

Only about 14–26 percent of the

energy from the fuel you put in

your tank gets used to move your

car down the road, depending on

the drive cycle. The rest of the en-

ergy is lost to engine inefficiencies,

or is used to power accessories.

4) 15.9 mpg (6.8 km/l)

When the U.S. Congress passed

legislation requiring automakers to

achieve increasingly stringent

goals for fuel economy figured by

the average of each manufacturer's

sales-weighted fleet, the U.S. aver-

age for total passenger vehicles

was 15.9 miles per gallon.

5) 5-25 percent

Running any electrical accessory

reduces fuel economy; having the

air conditioner on the maximum

setting can cut efficiency 5 to 25

percent, according to the U.S. De-

partment of Energy.

6) Replacing a clogged air filter

Research sponsored by the U.S.

Department of Energy in 2009

showed that a clogged air filter has

no significant effect on the fuel

economy of newer vehicles, and

very little effect for older vehicles.

But acceleration performance on

all vehicles was improved with a

clean air filter.

WORLDS UGLIEST DOG:

The Evolution of Mugly’s Frightful Features

Almost every year for the past dec-

ade, a Chinese Crested has won the

World’s Ugliest Dog Competition in

Petaluma, California. This year was

no exception. The 2012 winner was

eight year old Mugly, a bald and

beady eyed Chinese crested who

sports stringy whiskers reminiscent

of dental floss.

Hairless breeds like the Chinese

Crested and the Peruvian hairless are

almost certainly man-made. Pre-

sumably it’s just an ancient mutation

that happened one time, and breeders

liked it and propagated it. After all,

you don’t see packs of wild hairless

dogs running around.

How does hairlessness affect the

dog? We really don’t know of any

benefits. Maybe it cools the dogs off

faster. But then there is also sun-

burn. In Peru hairless dogs are al-

most always wearing sweaters.

When you take them off you can see

tan lines. But there may be one ad-

vantage. Bragging rights in the ugly

dog contest.

Do you know of someone who is looking for a

quality pre-owned vehicle or wants to upgrade

their current vehicle?

Even if they have little money to put down or

they’ve had trouble qualifying in the past… I can

help them! Send them my way. They’ll be glad

you did and so will you! Here’s why…

If you refer someone to me this month, when

we close the deal, I will give them a $50 gift cer-

tificate for dinner at Blackstone Restaurant and

give you one too!

We have spent our life fighting the nega-

around the world. We do this by fighting

for the consumer as a car dealer that ad-

vises people and helps them get the qual-
