Tata Bolt vs Maruti Swift – An Intense Battle
Nearly 50% of the cars sold in the Indian market are hatchbacks. Fuel
efficient affordable hatchbacks are in good demand in the market. Most of
the car makers have good hatchbacks in their Indian portfolio. The Tata
bolt is hatchback launched in January 2015. The Maruti Suzuki Swift
launched in 2005 is the second bestselling car in India behind the Maruti
Alto. The refreshed models of the Swift have been launched in October
2014.
The Bolt comes in colours of shy grey, dune beige, venetian red, platinum
silver and pristine white. The swift comes in colours of mysterious violet,
granite grey, glistening grey, fire red, silky silver and pearl arctic white.
Externally the Bolt looks better with body coloured bumpers, projector
head lamps and electric ORVMs. The blackened head lights of the lower

The Tata Bolt comes in 4 petrol and 4 diesel variants priced Rupees 4.45 to
7 lakh. The Swift comes in 5 petrol and 4 diesel variants priced Rupees 4.58
to 7.21 lakh. Auto transmission models are missing for both the cars. The
Bolt petrol variants are powered by 1193 cc, 89 bhp and 140 NM torque
engines. The petrol engines of the Swift are less powerful 1197 cc, 83 bhp
and 114 NM torque engines. The diesel engines of both the models have
same rating of 1248 cc, 74 bhp and 190 NM torque. The Swift has better
fuel efficiencies of 20.4 kmpl in petrol and 25.2 kmpl in diesel than the
17.57 kmpl and 22.95 kmpl of the Bolt.
The cabin of the Bolt is spacious and has basic features like a manual AC,
tilt steering, vinyl seats and internally adjustable ORVMS. The Swift has
fabric seats and fully foldable rear seat for all the trims. The top trims of the
Bolt have 2 air bags, ABS, EBD, central locking, automatic AC, fabric seats,
power windows, electric body coloured ORVMs with blinkers, a 2 Din music
system with touch screen controls and Bluetooth connectivity.
The 3825 mm long Bolt has a wheel base of 2470 mm and a ground
clearance of 165 mm. The 3850 mm long Swift has a wheel base of 2430
mm and a ground clearance of 170 mm. Both the cars have McPherson strut
suspensions with coil springs at the front and torsion beam suspensions
with coil springs at the rear. The wheels are R14 for the base trims and R15
for the top variants for both the cars.
The Maruti Swift has better fuel efficiencies lesser maintenance costs. Auto
transmission variants are missing in both the cars. The Bolt scores in cabin
space and ride quality.
