Definition

The concept “SMART FACTORY” has been

defined from the industry revolution as

“The technological evolution from

embedded systems to cyber-physical systems

i.e. the merging of the virtual and the physical

worlds through cyber-physical systems and

thus resulting in fusion of technical processes

and business processes”

The Dawn of the “SMART FACTORY”

Smart FactoryThe merging of the virtual and the physical worlds through

cyber-physical systems and the resulting fusion of technical

processes and business processes are leading the way to a new

industrial age best defined by the INDUSTRY 4.0 project’s

“SMART FACTORY” concept.

The upgradation of the new technology and also the use of the

Roberts has given rise to the new era. By the use of new

technology has helped to produce the smart products, and also

to reduce the human errors .

Manufacturing companies benefit by increase in the

production with the less cost and by reducing the human errors

to increase the customer satisfaction with the help of

information and communication technology .

Objective

The basic objective is to make manufacturing

companies benefit by increase in the production

with the less cost and by reducing the human

errors and to increase the customer satisfaction

with the help of (ICT).

Systems and components are themselves optimally

organize and monitor. The desired result is that

production is to be flexible and faster, consume less

resources and less waste production than before.

Page 5: Smart Industry

Essentials

High-precision measurement technology and

intelligent networking of machines are an essential.

ICT must be increasingly and consistently

integrated in production systems.

Page 6: Smart Industry

Advantages

Reduction in the Human errors.

Improving quality consistency.

Reducing production costs.

Guaranteed productivity gains.

Enhancing the customer satisfaction.

High productivity .

Flexibility in customization.

Faster production

Page 7: Smart Industry

Disadvantages

Unemployment will increase.

Uniform technical standards are necessary.

Access of Internet is must and should.

It is difficult to have Broadband connection in

Rural areas.

Problem of malware and virus.

About the company

Ubisense smart factory

Ubisense Smart factory is a system that helps manufacturers sustain continuous flow, optimize efficiency, and reduce errors in manual assembly processes.

Smart factory provides real-time operational awareness, adaptive control, and data-driven insights by accurately identifying and locating process-critical assets

It delivers unique six sigma reliability.

Automotive Smart factory

The automotive industry is a leader in the adoption of

industrial automation to drive efficiency, quality and

lower production unit costs.

Ubisense automotive solutions are utilised in passenger,

agricultural, construction and commercial vehicle

production facilities.

All stages of vehicle assembly, from material and part

tracking, through online assembly process, offline

inspection and re-work, through to dispatch logistics

benefit from the real-time visibility.

Smart factory assembly

Vehicle manufacturers are attracted by innovations

in automotive assembly line methods that increase

factory productivity and improve quality.

The production process program or settings are

loaded reliably to the devices, in real-time without

the need for manual interaction.

Case Study May 6, 2009 - caterpillar is employing a RTLS at its heavy

equipment manufacturing plant in belgium to ensure its

hydraulic valves and hoses are assembled properly.

The company uses torque wrenches to fasten reinforced

tube hoses - made of rubber and steel.

When tightening a bolt that fastens a hose to a valve, a

worker must apply a specific amount of torque - around

300 Newton meters (nm) - in order for that valve to operate

properly

Tightening was done using a manual torque wrench.

Page 13: Smart Industry

Continued.. Caterpillar utilizes a software system known as PROTRAC, to

track each part's assembly, as well as who assembled it, and

when.

The tightness of the hose installation depended on the employee's

judgment.

Therefore, the company had wanted a system that would reduce

the errors, and also to make it simpler for employees to

tightening the bolt.

The amount of torque is crucial because if those hydraulic hoses

are not properly tightened, failure could result in leaking valves

when the complete machine is assembled and tested prior to

shipping for retail sale.

Conclusion

Smart industry has been a very powerful mode in increasing

the efficiency of the industry. Now a day’s all industries are

striving become a smart industry to resists from obsolescence.

The smartness is becoming core competency for the industry

having automated technology. The industry which is smart

will stand out in all the terms.

The smart industry will eliminate most of the human errors

and makes the process efficient. Therefore to be always

leading in between our competitors it is very important for an

industry to be smart in this competitive global era.

Page 15: Smart Industry

Learning outcome

In the whole study I found out that smartness is doing the same

thing as done before but in the most efficient way using new

technology.

Smart industry is a very big advantage but adaptation of the same

is highly difficult but if it is adopted properly it will have a huge

core competency for the industry.

The study showed how the job efficiency has been increased and

time taken to do the work has been reduced and most importantly

the errors has been eliminated to a topmost extent.

So to conclude with smart factory has a great advantage in the

existing scenario.
