Toyota of Orlando
explains how to safely
use roof racks!
As the summer sun sets and crisp air makes its way down to Central Florida, it’s
becoming clear that fall is finally here! Many of us are already planning our next
get-a-way adventure in a new Toyota. Some of the best cars in Central Florida to
take on a road trip are right here at Toyota of Orlando! These new Toyota cars are
spacious but can’t fit it all! That is why our cars come with added features like
roof racks and tailgate hatches to haul all the luggage, camping equipment and
cargo you cannot fit inside. Using the roof racks on your new Toyota may be a
convenient solution to your packing problem, but can be very dangerous if not
used correctly!
Transport cargo safely using roof racks on your new Toyota!
Are you currently in an Orlando Toyota SUV? If so, your car may have roof racks on top! New Toyota cars
like the 2014 Toyota RAV4 and the 2015 Toyota Highlander come equipped with a set of slender racks
on top of the cabin for securing extra cargo. Toyota roof racks aren’t a fashion statement- they have a
purpose, and a good one at that! Today we are giving you tips on how to accurately use Orlando Toyota
roof racks!
Plan before you pack
Distribute the weight of your heavy cargo or luggage evenly to avoid becoming too top-heavy. For
example, packing heavy luggage in the front and lighter in the back will cause your Toyota SUV in
Orlando to jolt forward when braking. Space everything out equally and avoid storing liquids up there.
Loose liquids sloshing around while driving will create problems with unequal weight distribution.
Cushion your cargo
Create soft cushioning for your luggage, and other cargo items, to prevent expensive damage to your
new Toyota in Orlando. Bumps and potholes in the road may cause cargo to scratch up the roof and
leave dents. Avoid direct contact with your car by padding your cargo!
Strap on securely
Tightly secure your cargo to the roof by using a sturdy nylon straps, ties, or rope. A webbed net with
hooks is another way to securely tie down your cargo. Four points of contact will ensure the load stays
strapped on top of your new Toyota (instead of spread out on the highway.) This step is extremely
important because loose cargo can get lost, destroyed, or create a dangerous hazard to other drivers on
the road.
Toyota of Orlando wants you and your cargo to arrive safely!
A few things to keep in mind…
Slow down when taking turns, extra weight may disrupt your center of gravity
Brake slow for cargo, your luggage is still in motion
Be cautious of the clearance, make sure your cargo can clear before traveling under bridges or
tunnels
