Reviewers note that the Avenger’s base four-cylinder engine has sufficient power for daily driving, but they’re more enthusiastic about the optional V6, which has one of the highest horsepower ratings in the class. A four-speed automatic transmission is standard and a six-speed automatic is optional, and some test drivers say the Avenger’s six-speed transmission can be slow to downshift. Test drivers say that while the Avenger’s interior is classier than it was a few years back, the continued use of plain plastic materials makes the cabin feel cheap, especially when compared with rivals, whose cabins are more up to date. Some say the front seats are acceptable, while others find that they’re uncomfortable and lack support. Critics agree that the cabin is cramped, especially in the back seat, and that other midsize sedans offer more room to spread out.
