SAFETY WARNINGS Property damage, serious injury or death mayresult from: • TIRE FAILURE DUE TO UNDERINFLATION/OVER-

LOADING.Follow the vehicle owner’s manual, tire placardor vehicle certification label on vehicle.

• EXPLOSION OF TIRE/RIM ASSEMBLY DUE TOIMPROPER MOUNTING.Only specially-trained persons should mounttires.

• FAILURE TO MOUNT RADIAL TIRES ONAPPROVED RIMS.

• FAILURE TO DEFLATE SINGLE OR DUAL ASSEM-BLIES COMPLETELY BEFORE DEMOUNTING.

• TIRE SPINNING ON SLIPPERY SURFACES SUCHAS SNOW, MUD, ICE, ETC. DO NOT SPIN TIRESIN EXCESS OF 35 MPH (55 KPH), AS INDICATEDON THE SPEEDOMETER. PERSONAL INJURY ANDSEVERE DAMAGE MAY RESULT FROM EXCES-SIVE WHEEL SPINNING, INCLUDING TIRE DISIN-TEGRATION OR AXLE FAILURE.

WARNING: Vehicle handling, traction, ride comfortand other performance parameters may be signifi-cantly affected by a change in tire size or type. Before replacing tires, always consult and followthe vehicle owner’s manual because some vehicle

manufacturers prohibit changing tire size. Whenselecting tires that are different from the originalequipment size make certain: (1) The tires haveadequate load carrying capacity based on the vehi-cle placard, (2) The tires have sufficient inflationpressure to carry the load and (3) There is properclearance with no interference points between thetire and vehicle. The consumer must be aware toalways drive safely and obey all traffic laws. Avoidsudden, sharp turns or lane changes. Failure to fol-low any of these warnings may result in loss of con-trol of the vehicle, leading to an accident and seri-ous injury or death.

TIRE CARE AND MAINTENANCE GUIDE The easiest way to help ensure satisfactory mileageand performance from your Goodyear or Dunloptires is to give them a simple but frequent (at leastmonthly) inspection for proper inflation, eventreadwear, and the presence of any damage.

DO MAINTAIN PROPER INFLATION PRESSUREIN YOUR TIRES Proper inflation pressure is necessary for optimumtire performance, safety and fuel economy. Tomaintain proper inflation pressure, frequently (atleast monthly) check tires (when they are cool) withan accurate tire pressure gauge.*

For example, it is difficult to tell just by looking atradial tires whether they are underinflated.Furthermore, when operating a vehicle equippedwith radial tires, it is difficult to notice when a tirehas gone flat or nearly flat since the “feel” of thevehicle does not change significantly.

*Evidence of air loss or repeated underinfl ationalways requires expert inspection to determinethe source of leakage and tire removal to deter-mine repairability. To avoid injury, NEVER attemptto reinflate a tire that has been run severely under-inflated.

Progressive air loss may result from punctures, cuts, curbing, impacts or partial bead unseating. Some fitment causes for air loss are (1) incompletebead seating, (2) bead tearing caused by amachine tool due to insufficient lubrication orimproper adjustment, (3) leaking valve core or rub-ber valve components. These should be replacedwhen problems are detected and whenever tiresare replaced.

Always maintain inflation pressure at the level rec-ommended by the vehicle manufacturer as shownon the vehicle placard, vehicle certifi cation labelor in the vehicle owner’s manual:

Underinflation is the leading cause of tire failure

and may result in severe cracking, component sep-aration or “blowout.” It reduces tire load capacity, allows excessive sidewall flexing and increasesrolling resistance, resulting in heat and mechanicaldamage. Maintaining proper inflation pressure isthe single most important thing you can do toensure tire durability and maximum tread life.

Overinflation increases stiffness, which may deteri-orate ride and generate unwanted vibration.Overinflation also increases the chances of impactdamage.

DON’T OVERLOAD YOUR VEHICLE Check your vehicle owner’s manual to determinethe load limits. Overloading your vehicle placesstress on your tires and other critical vehicle com-ponents. Overloading a vehicle can cause poorhandling, increased fuel consumption and maycause tire failure.

Never fit your vehicle with new tires that have lessload capacity than shown on the vehicle tire placardand remember that optimum rim width is importantfor proper tire load distribution and function.

The maximum load capacity stamped on the side-walls of P-Metric tires is reduced by 10% when usedon a light truck, utility vehicle or trailer. Never fit P-

Metric tires to light trucks that specify LT-typereplacement tires.

DON’T SPIN YOUR TIRES EXCESSIVELY Avoid excessive tire spinning when your vehicle isstuck in snow, ice, mud or sand. The centrifugalforces generated by a free-spinning tire/ wheelassembly may cause sudden tire explosion result-ing in vehicle damage and/or serious personalinjury to you or a bystander. Never exceed 35mph/55 km/h, as indicated on your speedometer.Use a gentle backward and forward rocking motionto free your vehicle for continued driving. Neverstand near or behind a tire spinning at highspeeds. For example, while attempting to push avehicle that is stuck or when an on-the-car spin bal-ance machine is in use.

DO CHECK YOUR TIRES FOR WEAR Always remove tires from service when they reachtwo thirty-seconds of an inch (2/32") remainingtread depth. All new tires have treadwear indica-tors which appear as smooth banks in the treadgrooves when they wear to the two thirty-secondsof an inch (2/32") level. Many wet weather acci-dents result from skidding on bald or nearly baldtires. Excessively worn tires are also more suscepti-ble to penetrations.

28

GOODYEAR/DUNLOP TIRE LIMITED WARRANTY

412256M2:412256M2 3/26/08 7:39 AM Page 28

DO CHECK YOUR TIRES FOR DAMAGE Frequent (at least monthly) inspection of your tiresfor signs of damage and their general condition isimportant for safety. If you have any questions, have your tire Dealer inspect them. Impacts, pene-trations, cracks, knots, bulges or air loss alwaysrequire tire removal and expert inspection. Neverperform a temporary repair or use an inner tube asa substitute for a proper repair. Only qualified per-sons should repair tires.

PROPER TIRE REPAIR NOTE: Goodyear and Dunlop do not warrant anyinspection or repair process. The repair is entirelythe responsibility of the repairer and should bemade in accordance with established RubberManufacturers Association (RMA) procedures.

THE CONVENIENCE (TEMPORARY) SPARE The Convenience (Temporary) Spare is designed, built, and tested to the high engineering standardsset by North America’s leading car manufacturersand to Goodyear and Dunlop’s own high standardsof quality control. It is designed to take up a mini-mum of storage space and, at the same time, fulfillthe function of a spare tire when needed. The spareis kept in its storage space, fully inflated at 60 psi.To be sure it is always ready for use, the air pres-

sure should be checked on a regular basis.

The Convenience (Temporary) Spare can be used incombination with the original tires on your vehicle. You can expect a tire tread life of up to 3,000 miles(4,800 kilometers), depending on road conditionsand your driving habits. To conserve tire tread life, return the spare to the storage area as soon as it isconvenient to have the standard tire repaired orreplaced.

The Convenience (Temporary) Spare weighs lessthan a standard tire so it’s easier to handle. It alsohelps reduce the total car weight which contributesto fuel economy.

The wheels used with the Convenience (Temporary)Spare are specifically designed for use with highpressure spares and should never be used with anyother type tire.

DON’T ATTEMPT TO MOUNT YOUR OWNTIRES Serious injury or Death may result from explosionof tire/rim assembly due to improper mountingprocedures. Follow tire manufacturer’s instructionsand match tire diameter to rim diameter. Mountlight truck radials on rims approved for radial serv-ice. Do not apply bead sealer. This can inhibit bead

seating. Lubricate beads and tire rim (includingtube or flap) contact surfaces. Lock assembly onmounting machine or place in safety cage. STANDBACK and never exceed 40 psi to seat beads. Neveruse a volatile substance or a rubber “donut” (alsoknown as a bead expander or “O- Ring”) to aidbead seating. Only specially-trained personsshould mount tires.

DON’T MIX TIRES OF DIFFERENT SIZES ANDTYPES ON THE SAME AXLE For optimum handling and control, Goodyear andDunlop recommend fitment of four (4) tires of thesame type and size unless otherwise specified bythe vehicle manufacturer.

WARNING: Before you replace your tires, alwaysconsult the vehicle owner’s manual and follow thevehicle manufacturer’s replacement tire recom-mendations. Vehicle handling may be significantlyaffected by a change in tire size or type. Whenselecting tires that are different than the OriginalEquipment size, see a professional installer inorder to make certain that proper clearance, loadcarrying capacity and infl ation pressure is select-ed. Never exceed the maximum load capacity andinflation pressure listed on the sidewall of the tire.Always drive safely and obey all traffic laws. Avoid

sudden, sharp turns or lane changes. Failure to fol-low this warning may result in loss of control of thevehicle, leading to an accident and serious injury ordeath.

When replacing tires, you must maintain the out-side diameter and load carrying capacity of theOriginal Equipment tire. Inflation pressure mayneed to be adjusted to avoid overloading the tire.Consult the Tire & Rim Association Load andInflation Tables, ETRTO or JATMA standards for cor-rect load and inflation information.

NEVER FIT TIRES TO A VEHICLE THAT HAVELESS LOAD CARRYING CAPACITY THAN ASREQUIRED BY THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENTMANUFACTURER Examples: Many vehicles, such as large passengervans, require Load Range E tires as designated bythe vehicle manufacturer. Fitment of a tire, such asa Load Range D, with less carrying capacity is notallowed.

In other cases, tires of the same size may carry dif-ferent load indexes in the service description. Youmust make certain the replacement tires fitted tothe vehicle have a load carrying capacity equal toor greater than what the Original Equipment manu-facturer specifies.

FOLLOW THESE ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES Fit newest tires on rear axle. If radials and non-radi-als must be fitted to the same vehicle, fit radials onrear axle. Never mix radials and non-radials on thesame axle. When fitting snow tires or all-seasontires to performance vehicles, always fit in sets offour. It is not recommended to fit tires with differentspeed ratings. If tires with different speed ratingsare installed on a vehicle, they should be installedwith like pairs on the same axle. The speed capa-bility of the vehicle will become limited to that ofthe lowest speed rated tires. It is also recommend-ed that the lower speed rated tires be placed on thefront axle regardless of which axle is driven to helpprevent potential oversteer.

Use of lift kits with some vehicle/tire combinationscan cause instability. When changing tire sizes, always consult Dealer for optimum rim width andcarefully check vehicle/ tire clearances.

RETREADED TIRES Retreaded passenger and light truck tires are notwarranted by Goodyear and Dunlop for any reason.Good- year and Dunlop speed ratings and U.S.Department of Transportation test compliance cer-tifications are voided for retreaded tires.

DO MAINTAIN VEHICLE SUSPENSION, WHEELALIGNMENT AND BALANCE AND ROTATE YOURTIRES Lack of rotation, worn suspension parts, underin-flation/ overinflation, wheel imbalance and mis-alignment can cause vibration or irregular tire wear.Rotate your tires according to your vehicle manu-facturer’s recommendations or at maximum inter-vals of 6,000 miles/10,000 km.

TIRE SERVICE LIFE Tires are designed and built to provide many thou-sands of miles of excellent service. For maximumbenefit, tires must be maintained properly to avoidtire damage that may result in removal from servicebefore the tread is worn down to minimum depth.

It is not practical to accurately predict the servicelife of any specific tire in chronological time sinceservice conditions vary widely. The serviceability ofa tire over time is a function of the storage andservice conditions (inflation pressure, load, speed, road hazard injury, etc.) to which a tire is subject-ed. Consumers should not rely solely on theappearance of the tire, but should be aware of anychange in dynamic performance such as increasedair loss, noise or vibration, which could be a sign toremove the tire. Therefore, it is essential to havetires, including spares, inspected regularly (at leastmonthly) for proper inflation pressure, damage andtreadwear.

Important Safety Information

Operational Monitoring The information contained in this Owner’s Manualand Limited Warranty Brochure applies only to theOriginal Equipment tires supplied with your vehi-cle.

In order for Goodyear Run-Flat (Extended MobilityTechnology (EMT) and RunOnFlat (ROF)) tires toobtain the performance criteria stated within thisLimited Warranty, Goodyear Run-Flat tires must usespecific parts, such as a low tire pressure-monitor-ing system authorized by the Original Equipmentvehicle manufacturer.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System The Goodyear Run-Flat tire is a high-performancetire with a remarkable feature: It can operate forlimited distances, with very low or even no inflationpressure (refer to your Vehicle Owner’s Manual forthese limitations). This is an important benefit, especially if inflation loss occurs at a locationwhere immediately stopping your vehicle could behazardous. Because these tires ride well even with-out air pressure, your vehicle must be equippedwith a system to alert you when a tire has low or noair pressure.

Monitoring System Alert Refer to your vehicle Owner’s Manual for moreinformation on what to do if the tire pressure warn-ing system activates.

WARNINGIf the tire pressure-monitoring system signalsan alert, follow these safety precautions to pre-vent a loss of vehicle control that could result inserious personal injury or death: • Slow your speed as much as possible. Do

not exceed 55 mph (88 km/h). • Avoid hard cornering, hard braking and

severe handling maneuvers. • Avoid potholes and other road hazards. Remember that when your tires have lost airpressure, your vehicle’s handling capability isreduced, particularly during severe maneuvers.

To Prolong Tire Life During A System Alert The Goodyear Run-Flat tire can be driven at low orzero air pressure (refer to your vehicle Owner’sManual for these limitations). To help prolong thelife of a tire operating under low-inflation condi-tions, drive at a speed as far below 55 mph (88km/h) as possible. Also, drive the shortest dis-tance possible before obtaining tire service. Taking

these precautions will increase the chance thatyour tire will be repairable.

Service After A System Alert To obtain service after an alert from the tire pres-sure-monitoring system, contact your GoodyearRun-Flat service facility. Trained service personnelwill inspect your tires to determine if they are inneed of repair or replacement.

To locate your nearest authorized Goodyear Run-Flat service facility, call 1-800-RUN-FLAT, (1-800-786-3528).

WARNINGBecause of the unique characteristics ofGoodyear Run-Flat tires, the wheels on whichthey are mounted and your vehicle’s tire pres-sure monitoring system, all tire service workother than routine inflation maintenance andexternal inspections must be performed byservice personnel at a Goodyear Run-Flat serv-ice facility. Do not attempt to mount or dismount Run-Flattires yourself; serious injury or death couldresult. Only specially trained persons shouldmount, dismount and repair Run-Flat tires.

Tire Care And Maintenance While most tire maintenance must be performed bya Goodyear Run-Flat service facility as noted above, there are a few basic tire care items you can andshould regularly perform yourself. These aredescribed below.

Tire Inflation Underinflation is the leading cause of tire failure. Itreduces tire load capacity and allows excessivesidewall flexing, resulting in high heat generation.Maintaining proper inflation pressure is the singlemost important thing you can do to ensure tiredurability and maximum tread life.

Check inflation pressures at least once a monthand before long trips. Use an accurate tire pressuregauge. Always check pressures when the tires arecold (when the vehicle has been driven less thanone mile). If you must check inflation when the tiresare hot, add 4 psi (27 kPa) to the recommendedcold inflation pressure.

Consult your Vehicle Owner’s Manual, vehicle certi-fication label or the tire information placard on thedriver’s door edge for the recommended inflationpressure for your tires.

Treadwear Inspection Inspect your tires regularly (for example, each timeinflation is checked) for sufficient depth in thetread grooves. This can be done visually very quick-ly because your tires feature treadwear indicators(raised areas in the bottoms of the grooves) at sev-eral locations around the tire. When the treadmaterial has worn down to these indicators,2/32nds of an inch of tread groove depth remainsand the tire must be replaced. Any signs of unevenor irregular wear may indicate the need for a vehi-cle alignment or other vehicle suspension service.

Tire/Wheel Damage Inspection Inspect your tires for signs of damage to the treador sidewalls. Foreign objects embedded in thetread or torn or missing chunks of rubber in thetread or sidewall may indicate a potential problem.

At the same time, examine your wheels for signs ofdamage or abuse. A bent, dented or cracked wheelshould be replaced and the tire mounted on itshould be inspected thoroughly for damage.

Tire Repair Like any other Goodyear speed-rated, high-per-formance tire, the Goodyear Run-Flat tire may berepaired to correct a puncture in the tread, but

PROPER MATERIALS AND PROCEDURES MUST BEUSED. Contact a Goodyear Run-Flat service facilityfor information on proper repairs. For the locationof the nearest facility, call 1-800 RUN-FLAT (1-800-786-3528).

WARNINGProperty damage, serious injury or death mayresult from: • Tire failure due to underinflation or overload-

ing. Consult your Vehicle Owner’s Manual, tire information placard, or vehicle certifica-tion label for your vehicle’s tire inflationand load specifications.

• Tire failure caused by excessive operation atlow or zero inflation pressure.

• Explosion of the tire/rim assembly due toimproper mounting. Only specially trainedpersons should mount tires. More than 40psi (270 kPa) may be required to seatbeads. A safety cage and clip-on extensionair hose must be used if more than 40 psi(270 kPa) is needed to seat beads.

WARNINGOn slippery surfaces such as snow, mud andice, never spin tires in excess of 35 mph (55km/h) as indicated on the speedometer.Severe damage – including tire disintegrationand axle failure – may result from excessivewheel spinning, causing serious personalinjury. Goodyear Run-Flat tires are designed for useonly on certain original equipment wheels sup-plied with a properly operating low tire pres-sure-monitoring system. If applied to a vehiclewithout a properly operating low tire pressure-monitoring system the tires may fail when oper-ated in an underinflated condition, resulting inloss of vehicle control and possible seriousinjury or death. Application of these tires to avehicle not equipped with specified opera-tional low tire pressure-monitoring system con-stitutes improper and unsafe use of this prod-uct.

Mounting and balancing are includ-ed. Repairable punctures will also be repaired at nocharge during this period. (Without proof of pur-chase, date of manufacture will be used to deter-mine age.)

Prorated Adjustment A tire not eligible for no-charge replacement that isremoved from service due to a covered warranty

condition or rendered not repairable due to a roadhazard injury will be replaced on a prorated basis.

How Will Prorated Charges Be Calculated? Replacement price will be calculated by multiplyingthe tire’s advertised Retailer selling price at thetime of adjustment by the percentage of usableoriginal tread that has been worn off. You pay formounting, balancing and applicable taxes.

EXAMPLE: If your disabled tire had an original8/32" of usable tread wear and is worn to 4/32"usable tread remaining, you have used 50% andtherefore must pay 50% of the current advertisedselling price of the replacement tire. If the price ofthe new replacement tire is $160, the cost to youwould be $80 plus any additional charges, such asmounting, balancing and applicable taxes.

Owner’s Obligations A. You must present the tire to be adjusted to an

authorized Goodyear Run-Flat service facility(call 1-800-786-3528 for locations). Tiresreplaced on an adjustment basis become theproperty of The Goodyear Tire & RubberCompany or Goodyear Canada Inc.

Consumers should not rely solely on theappearance of the tire, but should be aware of anychange in dynamic performance such as increased

air loss, noise or vibration, which could be a sign toremovethe tire. Therefore, it is essential to havetires, including spares, inspected regularly (at leastmonthly) for proper inflation pressure, damage andtread wear.

OWNER’S MANUAL

IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION

OPERATIONAL WARNING The information contained in this Owner’s Manualand Limited Warranty Brochure applies only to theOriginal Equipment tires supplied with your vehi-cle.

In order for Dunlop®Self-Supporting Technology(DSST®) tires to obtain the performance criteriastated within this Owner’s Manual and LimitedWarranty, DSST tires must be used with partsauthorized by your Original Equipment VehicleManufacturer, such as wheels and tire pressuremonitoring systems.

TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM The Dunlop DSST tire is a high-performance tirewith a remarkable feature: It can operate for limiteddistances, with very low or even no inflation pres-sure (refer to your vehicle Owner’s Manual for theselimitations). This is an important benefit, especial-ly if inflation loss occurs at a location where imme-diately stopping your vehicle could be hazardous.

Because these tires ride well even without air pres-sure, your vehicle is equipped with a system toalert you when a tire has low or no air pressure.

MONITORING SYSTEM ALERT Refer to your vehicle Owner’s Manual for moreinformation on what to do if the tire pressure mon-itoring system activates.

WARNINGIf the tire pressure monitoring system signalsan alert, follow these safety precautions to pre-vent a loss of vehicle control that could result inserious personal injury or death: • Slow your speed as much as possible. Do

not exceed 55 mph (88 km/h). • Avoid hard cornering, hard braking and

severe handling maneuvers. • Avoid potholes and other road hazards. Remember that when your tires have lost airpressure, your vehicle’s handling capability isreduced, particularly during severe maneuvers.

TO PROLONG TIRE LIFE DURING A SYSTEMALERT The DSST tire can be driven at low or zero air pres-sure (refer to your vehicle Owner’s Manual for thelimitations). However, the tire may have to bereplaced if driven under such applications. To helpprolong the life of a tire operating under low-infla-tion conditions, drive at a speed as far below 55mph (88 km/h) as possible. Also, drive the short-

est distance possible before obtaining tire service.Taking these precautions will increase the chancethat your tire will be repairable.

SERVICE AFTER A SYSTEM ALERT To obtain service after an alert, from the tire pres-sure monitoring system, contact your authorizedDunlop DSST service facility. Trained service per-sonnel will inspect your tires to determine if theyare in need of repair or replacement.

To locate your nearest authorized Dunlop DSSTservice facility, call 1-800-786-3528.

TIRE CARE AND MAINTENANCE

WARNINGBecause of the unique characteristics ofDunlop DSST tires, the wheels on which theyare mounted and your vehicle’s tire pressuremonitoring system, all tire service work otherthan routine inflation maintenance and exter-nal inspection must be performed by servicepersonnel at an authorized Dunlop DSST serv-ice facility. Do not attempt to mount or dismount extendedmobility tires yourself; serious injury or deathcould result. Only specially trained personsshould mount, dismount and repair DSST tires.

While most tire maintenance must be performed byan authorized Dunlop DSST service facility, asnoted above, there are a few basic tire care itemsyou can and should perform yourself. These aredescribed below.

TIRE INFLATION Underinflation is the leading cause of tire failure. Itreduces tire load capacity and allows excessivesidewall flexing, resulting in high heat generation.Maintaining proper inflation pressure is the singlemost important thing you can do to ensure tire per-formance and maximum tread life.

Consult your vehicle Owner’s Manual or the tireplacard on the driver’s door edge for the recom-mended inflation pressure for your tires.

TREADWEAR INSPECTION Inspect your tires regularly (for example, each timeinflation is checked) for sufficient depth in the

tread grooves. Any signs of unevenor irregular wear may indicate the need for a vehi-cle alignment or vehicle suspension service.

TIRE/WHEEL DAMAGE INSPECTION Inspect your tires for signs of damage to the treador sidewalls. Foreign objects embedded in thetread, torn or missing chunks of rubber in the treador sidewall may indicate a potential problem.

At the same time, examine your wheels for signs ofdamage or abuse. A bent, dented or cracked wheelshould be replaced and the tire mounted on itshould be inspected thoroughly for damage.

TIRE REPAIR Like any other Dunlop speed-rated high perform-ance tire, the Dunlop DSST tire may be repaired tocorrect a nail-hole puncture in the tread, but prop-er materials and procedures must be used. Contactan authorized Dunlop DSST service facility for infor-mation on proper repairs.

WARNINGSerious injury or death may result from:• Tire failure due to underinflation or over-

loading. Consult your vehicle Owner’sManual or the tire placard on the driver’sdoor edge for your vehicle’s tire inflationand load specifications.

• Tire failure caused by excessive operationat low or zero inflation pressure.

• Explosion of the tire/rim assembly due toimproper mounting. Only specially trainedpersons should mount tires. More than 40psi (270kPa) may be required to seatbeads. A safety cage and clip-on extensionair hose must be used if more than 40 psi(270kPa) is needed to seat beads.

WARNINGOn slippery surfaces such as snow, mud andice, never spin tires in excess of 35 mph(55km/h) as indicated on the speedometer.Severe damage – including tire disintegrationand axle failure – may result from excessivewheel spinning, and could cause serious per-sonal injury.

WARNINGDunlop DSST tires are designed for use only oncertain original equipment wheels suppliedwith a properly operating low tire inflation pres-sure monitoring system. If applied to a vehicleother than a so-equipped vehicle, the tires mayfail when operated in an underinflated condi-tion, which could result in loss of vehicle con-trol and possible serious injury or death.Application of these tires to a vehicle notequipped with specified original equipmentwheels and an operational low tire inflationpressure monitoring system constitutesimproper and unsafe use of this product.

Any tire, no matter how well constructed, may faildue to improper maintenance or service factors. This could create a risk of property damage andserious or fatal injury. Disregarding any of the safe-ty precautions and instructions contained in thismanual may result in tire failure or explosion caus-ing serious personal injury or death. For your safe-ty, comply with the following:

TIRE INFLATION Keep tires inflated to the pressures recommendedon the tire data placard. (See your OWNER’S MAN-UAL for location.) These inflation pressures mustbe maintained as a minimum. However, do notexceed the maximum pressure rating indicated onthe tire sidewall.

CHECK INFLATION PRESSURES ON ALL YOUR TIRES,INCLUDING THE SPARE, WHEN TIRES ARE COLD, ATLEAST ONCE A MONTH BEFORE DRIVING.

Failure to maintain correct inflation may result inimproper vehicle handling and may cause rapidand irregular tire wear, sudden tire destruction, loss of vehicle control and serious personal injury. Therefore, inflation pressures should be checked atleast once a month and always prior to long dis-tance trips.

Pressures should be checked when tires are cold. The tires are cold when your vehicle has been driv-en less than a mile at moderate speed after beingstopped for three or more hours.

CHECKING PRESSURE WHEN TIRES ARE HOT If you must add air when your tires are hot, add fourpounds per square inch (psi) (28kPa) above therecommended cold air pressure. Recheck the infla-tion pressure when the tire is cold.

For Example Only:

Gauge reading of hot tire: 32psi If recommended pressure is: 30psi Desired gauge reading of hot tire 30 + 4psi =34psi

Check cold pressures as soon as possible, at leastby the next day. Never “bleed” air from hot tires asyour tire will be underinflated. Use an accurate tiregauge to check pressures. Never allow children toair up tires.

DRIVING ON ANY TIRE THAT DOES NOT HAVE THECORRECT INFLATION PRESSURE IS DANGEROUS. Forreplacement tires, the correct inflation pressurewill be provided by your tire dealer. If not, refer tothe vehicle decal.

Underinflation produces extreme flexing of thesidewalls and builds up heat which may result insudden tire destruction and serious personalinjury. Overinflation can cause the tire to be moresusceptible to impact damage.

LOAD LIMITS DO NOT OVERLOAD. DRIVING ON ANY OVERLOADEDTIRE IS DANGEROUS. Never load your tires beyondthe load carrying limits molded into the sidewall ofthe tires or the maximum vehicle load limit asshown on the vehicle tire data placard, whicheveris less. Overloading causes heat to build up whichcan lead to sudden tire failure and serious person-al injury.

33 SPEED LIMITS AND SPEED RATED TIRES

HIGH SPEED DRIVING CAN BE DANGEROUS. Never operate your vehicle in excess of lawfulspeeds or the maximum speeds justified by thedriving conditions. Excessive speeds or racing cancause heat buildup in a tire leading to possible fail-ure and serious personal injury.

Correct inflation pressure is especially important. However, at high speeds, even with the correctinflation pressure, a road hazard, for example, ismore difficult to avoid and if contact is made, there

is a greater chance of causing tire damage than atthe lower speed. Moreover, driving at high speedreduces the reaction time available to avoid acci-dents and bring your vehicle to a safe stop. If yousee any damage to a tire or wheel, replace it withyour spare tire and see your tire dealer at once. Tire speed ratings do not imply that a vehicle canbe safely driven at the maximum speed for whichthe tire is rated. In addition, some damages orimproper repairs may cause a speed-rated tire tolose its speed rating. Exceeding the tire’s maximumspeed rating will cause the tire to build up exces-sive heat which can cause tire damage that couldresult in sudden tire destruction and rapid air loss.Failure to control a vehicle with sudden air loss canlead to an accident. In any case, you should notexceed reasonable speeds as indicated by thelegal limits and driving conditions.

SPEED SYMBOLS - are shown on the sidewall ofsome tires. The following table shows the maxi-mum speed corresponding to the symbol.

SPEED RATINGS†Speed Speed Maximum Rating mph km/Hr M 81 130N 87 140P 93 150Q 99 160R 106 170S 112 180T 118 190H 130 210W 168 270Y 186 300V* 149 240Z** 149 240

*Some V (or VR) rated tires may have a speedcapacity of greater than 149 mph (240 km/h).Consult your tire manufacturer for maximum speedratings if your vehicle capability exceeds this speed.

**Z (or ZR) rated tires are designed for use on carswith maximum speed capabilities in excess of 149

mph (240 km/h). Consult your tire manufacturer formaximum speed capabilities.

†Although a tire may be speed rated, we do notendorse the operation of any vehicle in an unsafe orunlawful manner. Speed ratings are based on labo-ratory tests which relate to performance on theroad, but are not applicable if tires are underinflat-ed, overloaded, worn out, damaged, altered, improperly repaired, or retreaded. Furthermore, tirespeed ratings do not imply that vehicles can besafely driven at the maximum speed for which thetire is rated, particularly under adverse road andweather conditions or if the vehicle has unusualcharacteristics. Most highway passenger tires thatdo not have a speed symbol in the sidewall have amaximum speed rating of 105 mph. Light truckhighway tires that do not have a speed symbol onthe sidewall of the tire have a maximum speed of 87mph. Some light truck tires may have higher maxi-mum speeds; consult your tire dealer. The speedand other ratings of retreaded tires are assigned bythe retreader and voids the original manufacturer’sratings.

IMPORTANT: In order to maintain the speed capa-bility of the vehicle, replacement tires must havespeed ratings equal to or higher than those fitted as

original equipment (as indicated on the vehicleplacard or owners manual). If tires with lower speedratings are fitted, the speed capability of the vehiclewill be lowered to the maximum speed capability ofthe replacement tire as indicated on the abovetable.

Remember...High speed driving can be dangerousand may be damaging to your tires.

And...When driving at highway speeds, correctinflation pressure is especially important.

Contact the manufacturer of your tires for their posi-tion and assistance on the repair of speed-ratedtires. When you are replacing tires that have aspeed rating, you must replace with tires of thesame or higher speed rating if the speed capabilityof the vehicle is to be maintained.

VISUAL INSPECTION INSPECT YOUR TIRES. DO NOT DRIVE ON A DAM-AGED TIRE OR WHEEL. Check your tires frequentlyfor scrapes, bulges, separations, cuts, snags, cracks, penetrations or excessive localized wearfrom hard braking. Also check for abnormal tirewear, particularly on the edges of the tire treadwhich may be caused by misalignment or underin-flation. Impacts can damage the inner portion of

the tire without being visible on the outside. Ifdamage can be seen on the tires or wheels, or ifyou suspect that possible impact damage mayhave occurred, replace with spare at once and haveyour tire store or dealer inspect your tires immedi-ately. Use of a damaged tire could result in tiredestruction. When inspecting your tires, includingthe spare, check your air pressures. If your pressurecheck indicates that one of your tires has lost pres-sure of two pounds or more, look for signs of pene-trations, valve leakage, or wheel damage that mayaccount for the air loss.

All tires will wear out faster when subjected to highspeeds as well as hard cornering, rapid starts, sud-den stops, frequent driving on roads which are inpoor condition, and off-road use. Roads with holesand rocks or other objects can damage tires andcause misalignment of your vehicle. When youdrive on such roads, drive on them carefully andslowly, and before driving again at normal or high-way speeds, examine your tires for any damage, such as cuts, bulges, penetrations, unusual wearpatterns, etc.

TREAD WEAR INDICATORS (WEAR BARS): Tires con-tain Tread Wear Indicators (Wear Bars) in thegrooves of the tire tread which show up when only

2/32nds of an inch (1.6mm) of tread is remaining. At this stage, your tires must be replaced. Tiresworn beyond this stage are dangerous.

HAZARDS Objects in the road that threaten a tire should besafely avoided. These objects are potholes, glass, metal, rocks, wood debris and the like.Unavoidable contact should prompt a thorough tireinspection.

You may not always recall hitting an object that candamage or injure your tires. If while driving yourvehicle experiences any unusual vibrations, ridedisturbance or noise and/or you suspect that pos-sible damage to the tires or vehicle has occurred,DO NOT JAM OR LOCK YOUR BRAKES! Rather reduceyour speed and drive with caution until you cansafely pull off the road. Stop and inspect the tires. If the tire is underinflated or damaged, deflate, remove the tire and rim assembly and replace itwith your spare. If you cannot detect a cause, havethe vehicle towed to the nearest vehicle or tiredealer to have the vehicle inspected.

REPAIRING, MOUNTING AND DEMOUNTINGOF TIRES Do not attempt to repair, mount or demount a tire

50

IMPORTANT TIRE SAFETY INFORMATION*yourself. Tire changing can be dangerous and mustbe done by professionally trained persons usingproper tools and procedures as specified by theRubber Manufacturers Association (RMA). Followthese mounting recommendations. Your tiresshould be mounted on wheels of correct size andtype and which are in good, clean condition. Bent, chipped or rusted wheels may cause tire damage. The inside of the tire must be free from foreignmaterials. Have your dealer check the wheelsbefore mounting new tires. Mismatched tires andrims can explode during mounting. Also, mis-matched tires and rims can result in dangerous tirefailure on the road. If a tire is mounted by error onthe wrong-sized rim, do not remount it on the prop-er rim - scrap it. It may be damaged internally(which is not externally visible) by being danger-ously stretched and could fail on the highway.

Old valves may leak. When new tubeless tires aremounted, have new valves of the correct typeinstalled. Tubeless tires must be mounted only onwheels designed for tubeless tires, i.e., wheelswhich have safety humps or ledges.

Never perform a temporary repair, use an innertubeor inject sealant as a permanent substitute for a prop-er repair. Only qualified persons should repair tires.

Be sure that all your valves have suitable valvecaps. This will keep valve cores clean and clear andguard against leakage.

REPAIRS – WHENEVER POSSIBLE, SEE A TIRE DEAL-ER AT ONCE. Some tire manufacturers do not war-rant any inspection or repair process. The repair isentirely the responsibility of the repairer. Puncturesin the tread of a passenger tire which do not exceed1/4 of an inch (6mm) in diameter can usually berepaired by following the Rubber Manufacturer'sAssociation (RMA) Passenger and Light TruckRepair procedures. Contact the manufacturer ofyour tires for its position and assistance as to theacceptable location for a proper repair and therepair of speed rated tires. Do not use plug repairs. They may cause further damage to the tire. Theyare not always air tight and the plug may fail. Donot exceed posted speed limits on any repaired tire.Certain tire manufacturers speed ratings are voidedif the tire is repaired.

Although a tire was properly repaired, internalstructural damage resulting from the puncture mayhave occurred.

Sometime later the damage may cause the tire tobe removed from service.

If the tire has a puncture in the tread which exceeds1/4 inch (6mm), the tire must be replaced. If anytire has sustained a puncture, have the tire inspect-ed internally by a tire dealer for possible damagethat may have occurred.

Improper mounting and inflation procedures cancause an explosion of the tire/rim assembly. Onlyspecially trained persons should perform thesetasks. Contact your tire store or dealer for assis-tance.

CAUTION -Never, under any circumstance, intro-duce a flammable substance into a tire.

WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND BALANCING Wheel alignment and balancing are important forsafety and maximum mileage from your tires.Check how your tires are wearing at least once amonth. If your tires are wearing unevenly, such asthe inside shoulder of the tire wearing faster thanthe rest of the tread, or if you detect excessivevibration, your vehicle may be out of alignment orbalance. These conditions not only shorten the lifeof your tires, but adversely affect the handling char-acteristics of your vehicle which could be danger-ous. If you detect irregular wear or vibration, haveyour alignment and balance checked immediately.

*Provided by and published at the request of the tire manufacturers/warrantors.

412256M2:412256M2 3/26/08 7:39 AM Page 50

Tires which have been run underinflated will showmore wear on the shoulders than in the center ofthe tread.

HARD BRAKING You must inspect your tires after any hard brakingcircumstances or after tires have slid on the pave-ment. This can cause a flat spot in a section of thetire tread.

TIRE SPINNING Never spin your tires above a speedometer readingof 35 mph (55 km/h) if your vehicle becomes stuck. The centrifugal force generated by the free spinningtire/wheel assembly may cause a sudden tireexplosion, resulting in vehicle damage and/or seri-ous personal injury or death. Never allow anyone tostand near or behind a tire spinning at high speedwhile attempting to push a vehicle that is stuck. When in mud, sand, snow, ice or other slipperyconditions, do not indulge in excessive wheel spin.In such conditions, with automatic transmissionvehicles, by accelerating the engine excessively, itis possible to spin one of the drive tires beyond itsspeed capability. This is also true when balancing adrive tire/wheel assembly using the engine of thevehicle to spin the wheel.

TIRE TREAD Tires must be replaced when the depth of the treadreaches 2/32 inch (1.6 mm). Tires are manufacturedwith tread wear indicators molded into the tiregrooves which indicate tread wearout. As tiresapproximate 2/32 inch (1.6 mm) wearout, the treadgauge becomes thinner and more vulnerable to theeffects of road hazards. Also, worn tires are moresubject to hydroplaning, which can cause loss ofcontrol. Therefore, visual tire inspection becomesmore crucial as the tires wear out.

WORN TIRES Never drive on worn tires. Tires should be replacedby trained personnel when 2/32nds of an inchtread depth remains, as indicated by the treadwear indicators molded into the tread grooves. Inmost states, it is illegal to drive with less than2/32nds of an inch of tread remaining.

TIRE MIXING For best performance select tires similar in size andload rating to the original equipment tires. It is rec-ommended that the same size and type of tire beused on all four wheel positions. In certain tires, casing ply material and ply construction may varyas indicated on the sidewall of the tire. Whenchanging or replacing tires, it is preferred that all

four tires are the same construction type (i.e., HighPerformance, All Season, Mud & Snow) and con-struction (Radial or Bias Ply). Before mixing tires ofdifferent types on a vehicle in any configuration, besure to check the vehicle owner’s manual for itsrecommendations.

Tires which meet the Rubber Manufacturer'sAssociation (RMA) definition of mud and snow tiresare marked M/S, M+S, M&S. On such tires, thisdesignation is molded into the sidewall. Tires with-out this notation are not recommended for mudand/or snow driving.

If snow tires are needed, it is necessary to selecttires equivalent in size and load rating to the origi-nal equipment tires. Always fit performance snowtires in sets of four (4) for optimum mud & snowtraction and maintenance of vehicle handling char-acteristics. If you do not, it may adversely affect thesafety and handling of your vehicle. It is also impor-tant to check the vehicle owner’s manual beforemixing or matching tires on 4-wheel drive vehiclesas this may require special precautions.

Please refer to your Owner’s Manual for more infor-mation on tire replacement precautions.

TIRE ROTATION Tires on your Nissan vehicle should be rotatedevery 7,500 miles or as irregular wear develops. Ifirregular wear becomes apparent or if the wear rateon the tires is perceptibly uneven, the tires shouldbe rotated in such a way to alleviate the problem.Check your vehicle for any mechanical problemsand correct if necessary. Any rotation pattern orprocedure may be followed including those indi-cated in the Owner’s Manual. Some tires havearrows on the sidewall showing the direction inwhich the tire should turn. When rotating this typeof tire, care must be taken to maintain the properturning direction as indicated by the arrows. Somevehicles have different tire sizes specified for frontand rear axles. Tires on these vehicles should notbe rotated side to side (unless they are non-direc-tional). Where a temporary type spare tire is avail-able, it should not be included in the tire rotationschedule. Such tires are intended for temporaryuse only.

REPLACING TWO TIRES If your vehicle was originally equipped with fourtires that were the same size and you are onlyreplacing two of the four tires, install the new tireson the rear axle. Placing new tires on the front axle

may cause loss of vehicle control in some drivingconditions and cause an accident and personalinjury.

TRAILER TOWING If you anticipate towing a trailer, you should see atire dealer for advice concerning the correct size oftire and pressure. Tire size and pressure willdepend on the type and size of the trailer and hitchutilized, but in no case must the maximum coldinflation pressure or the tire load rating be exceed-ed. Check the tire decal and your Owner’s Manualfor further recommendations on trailer towing.

TIRE ALTERATIONS Do not perform any alterations on your tires.Alterations may prevent proper performance, lead-ing to tire damage, which can result in an accident.Tires which become unserviceable due to alter-ations such as truing, whitewall inlays, addition ofbalancing or sealant liquids, may be excluded fromwarranty coverage. Consult your tire warranty.

HIGH PRESSURE TEMPORARY SPARE TIRES 1) The high-pressure spare tire in your Nissan

vehicle is designed for temporary use only andmust not be used continually as a regular tire. The standard tire should be repaired and/orreplaced as soon as possible.

2) Avoid driving over obstacles that may damagethe tire through impact or cutting, such as pot-holes, glass, metal, etc.

3) Speed must not exceed 50MPH (80km/h) fornon- speed-rated temporary spare tires.

4) Temporary spare tires have a limited treadlifewhich can vary depending on road conditionsand your driving habits. The spare tire shouldbe returned to the trunk as soon as the stan-dard tire can be repaired or replaced.

5) Because the high-pressure spare tire wasspecifically designed for your car, it should notbe used on any other vehicle.

6) Do not use snow chains on your high-pressurespare. This could cause damage to your vehicle.

7) Check the tire’s cold inflation pressure monthlyand maintain at 60psi (4.2kg/cm2) even whennot in use.

8) The high-pressure spare tire should not beused with any other rim nor should standardtires, wheel covers, or trim rings be used on thehigh-pressure spare tire rim which was original-ly installed.

9) When the tread wear indicator appears on thetire, replace it only with the same type sparetire.

IMPORTANT TIRE SAFETY INFORMATION*10) Do not enter an automatic carwash with a tem-

porary spare tire fitted. 11) Do not make a sharp turn or apply the brakes

suddenly when driving on a high-pressure tem-porary spare.

Note: When using any temporary type spare tire, besure to follow the vehicle Owner’s Manualinstructions.

TIRE STORAGE All tires should be stored in a cool dry placeindoors so that there is no danger of water collect-ing inside them. When tires are stored they should be stored in acool place away from sources of heat and ozonesuch as hot pipes and electric generators. Be surethat surfaces on which tires are stored are cleanand free from grease, gasoline or other substanceswhich could deteriorate the rubber. (Tires exposedto these materials during storage or driving couldbe subject to sudden failure.)

To Avoid Damage to your Tires and PossibleAccident: • Check tire pressure at least once a month

when tires are cold and before long trips.• Do not underinflate/overinflate.• Do not overload.• Drive at moderate speeds, observe legal

limits.• Avoid driving over potholes, obstacles,

curbs or edges of pavement.• Avoid excessive wheel spinning.• If you see any damage to a tire, replace with

spare and see the tire manufacturer’s deal-er or your Nissan dealership.
