What Are The Purposes Of A Music Video? Music videos are not only a means to

the artist’s self promotion, they also have more profitable uses for the music industry. First of all, they can be used for product placement i.e. Jennifer Lopez’s video for song “Live it Up” contained the following product placement: Swarovski, Nokia, Ice Watches and Beluga vodka.

Music Videos, through intertextuality may advertise other media products. For example, songs are used as OST for a movie i.e. The music video for “Young and Beautiful” by Lana Del Rey, contained bits from the movie “The Great Gadsby” or Adele’s “Skyfall”, was all about the new James Bond movie “Skyfall”.

Also internet exposition is not totally free. For example, when artist upload videos in YouTube, they may choose to have some adverts before the video or make some partnerships with companies like VEVO, and thus get extra profit. For example, Miley Cyrous music video “we can't stop" made approximately 200 million by the partnership with VEVO and the YouTube vies.
