Mean Girls- Narrative structure

During this shot we see the protagonist getting looked down on from one of the ‘Plastics’. This scene is an example of the Levi Strauss theory explaining the binary opposites of Good VS Evil. As I have previously watched this film I know that Kady the protagonist (on the left) is the hero, an example of Propp’s theory of specific character types. Then Regina (on the right) is the villain as she tries to trick Kady into a lot of things and gets her into unnecessary trouble.

This scene shows Kady the protagonist (on the left) sat with 2 of her friends. This is an example of Propp’s theory for sidekicks. As I have watched this before I am aware that these 2 characters help Kady to go the right direction with school. We instantly learn this because at the beginning of the film these 2 characters tell Kady who to sit with and who not to sit with, so we see that they are already helping her.

In this two shots we see the beginning (top) and the ending (bottom) of the film. The top shot reflects on the Todorov theory, being an equilibrium that everything is calm at the beginning and no drama has begun just yet and in this case being High School drama. After this shot a disruption occurs as Kady almost gets hit by a bus.The bottom shot shows a new equilibrium as all the drama and disruptions have occurred and the storyline has come to an end.
