Plan

How Synergy is formed and its attributes:

In media economics, synergy is the promotion and sale of a product (and all its versions) throughout the various subsidiaries of a media conglomerate e.g. films, soundtracks or video games. Walt Disney pioneered synergistic marketing techniques in the 1930s by granting dozens of firms the right to use his Mickey Mouse character in products and ads, and continued to market Disney media through licensing arrangements. These products can help advertise the film itself and thus help to increase the film's sales.

Case Studies

Rupert Murdoch has lavished praise on Apples Ipad, describing the device as a "game changer" for news media and predicting that "hundreds and hundreds of millions" of similar tablet computers will eventually be sold around the world. Speaking as a global advertising surge and box office takings from the movie Avatar helped his News Corporation empire deliver a $2.5bn full-year profit, Murdoch predicted the iPad's convenient style could reinvigorate journalism: "We'll have young people reading newspaper.”

When The Times debuted its £9.99-a-month iPad edition in May, it launched without any built-in way for readers to pay again for a second month.

Online news has become more popular than reading newspapers in the US, according to a survey. It is the third most popular form of news, behind local and national TV stations, the Pew Research Center said.
