STORYLINE

The storyline of the music video is the artist sleeping and dreaming about how he was as a little boy and how he came about to writing the song itself. This is shown by the use of cuts and fillers used to show the transition in ages.

EDITING (COLOUR)

The whole of the music video will be shot in black and white apart from the later stages. The reason why I want the majority of the music filmed in black and white is because it creates the atmosphere of recollected emotions and to a certain degree continuity which I want to be evident for most of the music video. The music video that inspired me to do this was Beyonce “If I was a boy” music video. The majority of the music video is in black and white until we return back to reality. Another music video that influenced me in the way that I edit is the A2 music video for “Rhythm of the night”. The reason why it influenced me is because it showed clearly through the black and white editing the past and also the present.

EDITING SPEED

For the majority of the music video, the changes of shot will take place on beat. But during the chorus and other parts of the music videos there will be split screen evident to show the boy was singing the song when he was younger and showing now when he is older. The editing speed might be slightly faster for the whirlpool affect used in the chorus. The reason why the editing speed will be like this is because it also follows the typical editing for synthpop which is on beat editing.

EXAMPLES OF SYNTHPOP

An example of synthpop music videos is Daft Punk “Around the World”. In this music video the action that are happening are performative, repetitive and have tiny things in common with the lyrics. These actions are common things evident in synthpop music videos.

STILL EDITING

Every time in the chorus when it says “I’d Like to make myself believe”, the lyrics will appear in bold italics. The reason why these lyrics will appear whenever the chorus appears is because it symbolises what the music video is about and the idea of reflecting and going back in time. The two music video that influenced me about this was kanye West “All of the lights” and also again the A2 music video “Rhythm of the Night”. Again for the reason that it clearly showed what the music video was about and what it wanted to portray.

MISE-EN-SCENE

The costumes that both boys will be wearing will be identical but of different sizes to show he was singing it when he was younger. They will also be wearing identical snapbacks to show that it is the same person but at different ages. The props that will be evident in the music video will be a keyboard a music book , a cup of water, box and chair. The reason why these props will be evident in the music video I because it will give the music video a realistic and relatable feel towards the audience.

WHY THESE THINGS

The reason why I want to have these props evident in the music video is because they again make the music video seem more realistic. It also helps with the transitions so that it is clear that the character is changing age and reflecting on things he did in the past

CAMERA ANGLES

The most obvious camera angels evident in the music video will be close ups, high angle, low angel, close up ,watching shots, long shots, establishing shots and mid shots. The reason why all these shots will be evident in the music video is because they are all shots that makes the audience feel as though they are actually interacting with the characters in the music video. Another reason why all these camera angels will be evident in the music video is because they allow the audience to view the characters in the music video from different perspectives and to a certain degree give the music a veracious feeling

EXAMPLE OF CAMERA ANGLE USE

An example of how a high angel shot will be used in this music video to allow the transition of characters on the keyboard to happen to take place can be seen by focusing on a certain part of the artist body . By doing this it would illustrate the different ages in which the character sang and made this song when he was younger and older. This in turn gives the feel of continuity in the music video.

The close up and the zoom out of certain aspects of characters or props also will also act a transition between the different characters to illustrate the different ages and again highlight the continuity between there actions

LOCATION

The location of the music video will be filmed in the kitchen and the living room. The reason why I have chosen these two locations is because they have the props required in my music video. This is shown in detail in my storyboard.
