Intro

I decided to do a Photoshop tutorial as practise before starting to make a poster for my film.

I thought it would be a good idea to make a teaser poster for an imaginary horror film called ‘Darkness’ and use effects to make it look like it had been drawn or painted.

This poster didn’t take me long and I played on the idea of using simplicity and minimalism as a basis for my poster theme.

• Firstly, I decided to choose a background image that I thought would best suit my horror genre. I decided to use a black background with white mist going across the middle of it.

• I resized the image using the resize tool to fit the size of the poster I wanted.

• Secondly, I chose a image that I could easily add an effect to that would look like it had been drawn or painted on.

• The image I chose was a paranormal one which looked like a ghost of a little girl’s face. I had to save this image from the internet then open it in Photoshop as a separate layer.

• I then had to use the cropping tool to use the part of the image I wanted.

• I then went on to use the Lasso tool to select it

so I could add it on top of the background I had

chosen.

• I added an effect which was called ‘Dry brush’. This made

it seem like the image had been painted on

• I then went on to add the text. I decided to do the title ‘Darkness’ in black and in a simple font.

• I positioned it on top of the white mist going across the background

• I also added a tagline below the title to the right.

• I then added the ‘Coming soon’ at the top in smaller font
