El océano representa el subconsciente, las partes desconocidas de la mente, las profundidades ocultas, oscuras del océano, nuestras áreas inexploradas, los pensamientos desconocidos, emociones, sentimientos, que no son visibles en la superficie. Observando mis pinturas una persona puede enfrentar a un símbolo de su propio subconsciente, profundizar en sus emociones y en su mente en general. El océano también significa alma. La parte tranquila, interior de uno mismo, que se encuentra en el núcleo. Las imágenes del tranquilo, océano son sinónimos de la profundidad del alma. Que nos conduce a la siguiente ecuación del océano y la naturaleza. El océano representa la parte intacta, que no forma parte de la vida urbana subyugada por las autoridades, jerarquías represivas y la cultura "artificial", etc. Es por eso que pinto Oceá-NICA, que representa las posibilidades internas de nuestra identidad como pueblo de Nicaragua.

The ocean represents the subconscious, the unknown parts of the mind, the dark, hidden depths of the ocean standing for unknown, unexplored thoughts, emotions, feelings, that are not visible on the surface. In my paintings a person can face a symbol of his own subconciousness, going deep into his own emotions and his mind.The ocean also stands for the soul. The tranquil, inner part of oneself, that lies at the core. The images of the still, deep ocean represents the deepness of the soul.Which brings us to the next part, the equation of the ocean and nature. the ocean represents the untouched part, not part of urban life subjugated by authorities, hierarchies, repressive and "artificial" culture etc.That is why I paint OCEÁ-NICA, representing the inner possibilities of our identities as Nicaraguan people.

En algún lugar debajo de la calma, tenemos una vaga sensación de inquietud o incertidumbre, pero no podemos precisar qué es. Esperamos que desaparezca el nerviosismo, y la verdad, muchas veces se va solo. Pero si no, la agitación o inquietud se mantienen hasta que se presenta el acontecimiento.Pero a veces es lo contrario, nuestras tormentosas aguas emocionales pueden mantenerse durante días o semanas. A veces pensamos que sabemos el origen de la inquietud y en estas situaciones, sentimos que la incertidumbre está justificada, y las corrientes internas tienen un motivo. OCÉA-NICA es una serie en la que la superficie se ve agitada desde el fondo del lienzo, pero mantiene una apariencia luminosa.

Somewhere beneath the calm, we have a vague sense of anxiety or uncertainty, but we can not pinpoint what it is. We hope that the nervousness disappears, and the truth, sometimes it goes alone. But if not, agitation or restlessness remain until the event occurs. But sometimes it is the opposite, our emotional stormy waters can stay for days or weeks. Sometimes we think we know the source of the anxiety and in these situations, we feel that the uncertainty is justified, and internal currents have a a reason. OCÉA-NICA is a series in which the surface is agitated from the bottom of canvas, but maintains a luminous appearance.

Los siguientes dibujos a crayón, fueron realizados para la muestra “las Trazantes” en la Galería Rocío Quiroa, de Guatemala. Dibujar con lápices de colores me devuelve a la infancia, y es una experiencia muy valiosa para concebir mis mares en técnica mixta en gran formato. Para adentrarme en los océanos, esta forma de proyectar mis piezas, me permite acercarme a la intuición de mis primero años y acercarme a los mares de Nicaragua y al poder de sus lagos, que son la metáfora perfecta para el acontecer nacional, porque el agua cambia según la hora, el viento y las mareas. Dibujo con el cuidado de una niña, que la mano no manche el papel, no debo borrar, me enfoco en el concepto y cuando uso el tajador para afilar la punta de un crayón, siento las posibilidades de los demás colores en la fila en su caja. Estos proyectos que muestro aquí, no han sido realizados en gran formato y tampoco lo serán, yo quise dejarlos como piezas únicas, para “Las Trazantes”.

The following crayon drawing, were made for "Las Trazantes" exhibition, in Rocío Quiroa Gallery, in Guatemala. Drawing with crayons took me back to childhood, and is a very valuable experience to sketch my in large format mixed media. To go into the oceans, this way of projecting myself into my art pieces, allows me to approach the intuition of my first years and approach the seas of Nicaragua and the power of its lakes, which are the perfect metaphor for national events, because water changes by time, wind and tides. Drawing with the care of a child, the hand does not stain paper, should not erase, I focus on the concept and when I use the sharpener to sharpen the tip of a crayon, I feel the possibilities of other colors in a row in its box . These projects displayed here, they have not been made in large format nor will be, I wanted to leave them as unique pieces for "Las Trazantes".

Breve resumen curricular

Laura Báez de Lacayo , con más de 40 exposiciones colectivasy una personal, fue seleccionada para el libro “The Best of 2016”del International Emerging Artists Award, de Art Dubai,precisamente por su metáfora del mar y la mente. Laura haganado varios reconocimientos, entre los que podemos contarser seleccionada por la curadora Despina Tunberg porARTAVITA para exhibir en noviembre de este año en SpectrumRed Dot en Miami. También aparece en el libro ENTRE SIGLOSde arte contemporáneo Centroamericano de Fundación RozasBotrán, así como en ICA, International Contemporary Art,editores de artistas seleccionados en su libro anual 2016 en NewYork, USA. Y entre otros, en su país ganó en 2004 el Tercer Premiodel Certamen Nacional de Pintura “Antonio Sarria”, del BancoCentral de Nicaragua y en 2002 fue finalista del PremioNacional de Pintura “Toribio Jerez” del Banco Central deNicaragua y actualmente, fue seleccionada por el Ministerio decultura de su país, para exhibir en São Paulo, Brasil.

And amongothers, in their country she was awarded in 2004 with the ThirdNational Painting Prize, the Competition "Antonio Sarria", by theCentral Bank of Nicaragua and in 2002 she was recognized as afinalist for the National Painting Prize "Toribio Jerez" by CentralBank of Nicaragua and currently, she was selected by theMinistry of culture of his country, to exhibit in São Paulo, Brazil.
