SynopsisBlood Diamond is a 2006 American-

German political war thriller film co-produced and directed by Edward Zwick, starring

Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Connelly and Djimon Hounsou.

The title refers to blood diamonds, which are diamonds mined in war zones and sold to

finance conflicts and thereby profit warlords and diamond companies across de world.Set during the Sierra Leone Civil War in

1996-2001, the film depicts a country apart by the struggle between government loyalists and insurgent forces. It also

portrays many of the atrocities of the war, including the rebels’ amputation of people’s hands to discourage them from voting the

incoming elections.

The side lighting and the almost no lighting in the background drowns all the attention to the character. This kind of light helps as well to emphasize the genre of the film – drama/action/suspense. The color in this scene is warm which accentuates the intimacy between the characters.

About the setting and the props in the scene we can see that the predominant khaki green shirts and the vegetation in the background which suggests the location is in the jungle, this also is indicated by the simplicity of the character as well for the non existent props.

The close-up in this scene was used to focus the attention in the character and to show his emotions.

In this scene we can note by the position of the characters that they have some intimacy. Also the bottle of milk suggests that they are at home and gives the viewer the feeling of a relaxed scene as

well as the relaxed style of clothes they are using.

The medium shot is used to show both characters and to emphasize their connection. The lighting helps as well as it drowns the audience to them as the background is dark.

The position of the character and the camera angle shows that she’s is not dominant in this scene.The side lighting gives a dramatic look and enhances the face of the character so the audience focus

on her expressions/emotions.

Again, the natural look in the hair, no makeup, the khaki green shirt and the warm tones gives a relaxed look to the scene.
