IONA PREP TRAVELS TO NEW

ORLEANSMARCH 29 – APRIL 2, 2010

Working with Operation Helping Hands, we were able help a small

part of New Orleans damaged

by Hurricane Katrina…

Getting our supplies ready for the day ahead!

Our group spent four

days working on this home around the

Garden District of

New Orleans

Our group met with students from

other Catholic schools from around the country.

We spent the evening with the Brothers in New

Orleans and learned about their own

experiences.

The Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans, five years later…

Empty lots and vacant homes…

Many houses are still marked from the search and rescues teams after Katrina.

Our new friend thanking us for our work.

St. Raymond’s Catholic School has become the Catholic Charities headquarters for hurricane recovery volunteering.

Much of the school was converted immediately after Hurricane Katrina. There was little time to salvage what was left.

A Home on the Mountain

We spent several days

building a home for a family that never had

one.

were covered in graffiti and desperately

needed to be painted.

Her message was to work as Christ rather than simply for Christ.

A Home for the Homeless

This couple’s home often sheltered the homeless and was quite crowded.

Hogar San Francisco De Asis – Medical Mission

The children helped us wash the dishes and clean up after lunch.

We spent time playing soccer and other games with the children.
