On 2nd October, 2013, the IIT Alumni

Center launched

Impressions, its very own art

series.

Padmashri Dr. Thotta Tharani – Art Director

The main event of the evening was

an art exhibition that

featured PadmashriDr. Thota Tharani’s

select retrospective,

Inspired By Life.

Art connoisseurs who attended

the event at the Club in the City, Abhiramapuram

also met the renowned

artist.

As an artist, his work

spreads over a wide range of paintings,

murals, paper collages, wooden

montages, sculptures and more.

His keen observation, artistic hand, creativity and unique use of colours - from

a splash of bright hues to monochrome - make him a

rare artist.

He has used everything

from pencils, chalk, colour

pencils, crayons, pastels,

acrylic, and watercolors on canvas,

paper, boards, blackboards, sun mica and

ceramic mural.

Thota Tharani is also one of the leading art directors

and set designers of

Indian cinema. He has more than 175

feature films (and a few

foreign productions) to his credit.

'Inspired by Life' is a

retrospective of the

creative genius of

Thota Tharani that

showcased selected

works from his series.

The IIT Alumni Industry Interaction Center has among its current members, a diverse and vibrant network of alumni from the IITs across India. Through the Center, the alumni, industry representative and professionals combine their time, talent and outreach efforts to transform, inspire, and add value to education and industry in the Chennai area.

The Center will have world-class facilities to enable value creation through meaningful networking among the individual members; research assistants and faculty of IIT Madras; professionals from fields of art and technology and leaders from the corporate world.

Membership of the Center is open to alumni and faculty

from all the IITs across India; and by invitation to

distinguished corporates and professionals from different

walks of life.
