Graham Owen photography Why I picked this photographer I have picked this photographer to look at in detail as I found he was one of the most appealing macro photographers, as I like his macro photography on flowers. He established himself as an artist and natural photographer, some of his photos have been features on the cover of various publications as his wildlife and macro photography dominate his most recent work. I like how Graham has a range of portfolios ranging from macro photography to bird, dragonfly and landscape photography. As all of these portfolios seem to include close- up images which I can look into. A lot of Grahams work is used for advertising and websites due to his unique style and high quality. I specifically picked Graham as one of my photographers to look at in detail as I am impressed with his macro work, I like how with his flowers he has managed to capture water droplets on them as it shows great detail. This was one of my favourite pictures from Grahams portfolio, I am especially drawn to the fact that he ha managed to capture natural water droplets on the photo as I have tired to do the same thing before so I therefore know it can be white hard. I like the angle he has taken it at as it shows the different petals of the flower, I also think the colour of the flower plays a big part in this as I think the pink looks very eye catching. I like the fact that you can also see the veins of the flower as this shows how much detail he has captured. This is another photo I found very appealing out of Graham’s macro portfolio, I like the positioning of the flower and the bee as its not directly in the centre but still works well this way. The fact that the background is blurred out emphasises the bee and the flower more and also the colours. If you look closely enough you can see the hairs on

Graham Owen photography

Why I picked this photographer I have picked this photographer to look at in detail as I found he was one of the most appealing macro photographers, as I like his macro photography on flowers. He established himself as an artist and natural photographer, some of his photos have been features on the cover of various publications as his wildlife and macro photography dominate his most recent work. I like how Graham has a range of portfolios ranging from macro photography to bird, dragonfly and landscape photography. As all of these portfolios seem to include close-up images which I can look into.

If you look closely enough you can see the hairs on the bee and also the glossy shine on its wings, this shows how effective his photography is which I like. Also I like how you can see a shine coming off of the leaf as this makes the image look more appealing. I

found this image very attractive as this is the sort of image I would like to try and achieve myself but I know I wouldn’t be able to on my own. I like how you can see how detailed the fish look as If you look close you can see the scales and the colours look very distinctive. I like how he has managed to capture the fish with its mouth open as it looks more effective this way, again the background is blurred out which makes the fish stand out. You can tell that the image has been taken very quickly as the fish has been pulled out of the water as

there is a shine on the fishes head.

Here is another image I find very appealing due to the fact that its different from the other three images. I think its effective how Graham has managed to catch the dragonfly’s wings in action as they blur in with the background, however there is still a fine line between them. I would love to try something like this myself however I know that I would have to get very close and also have a good enough camera to be able to capture the wing movement. I like that the dragonfly’s colour is orange, this brings out stands out in the photo more and enable you to be able to see the wings better.

How this photographer has influenced me Owen has influenced me into trying to expand and develop with my macro photography as I have become inspired by his work on flowers and insects. After looking at his work I have seen how much detail you can pick up on through macro photography, in specific I like his work to do the flowers as I have tired to do his techniques myself. Now looking at his work I have gained an insight to which camera angles work out best in order to achieve a positive effect. He has also influenced me to experiment with different insects too.

Summary Throughout looking at Owen’s work I have grown fonder of him as I have discovered his different portfolio’s ranging with different close-up ideas. Originally I liked his work due to the fact it was based around macro photography, however after exploring it further I discovered his other portfolios, which also include close-up photography, which I found inspiring. He has influenced me in various ways as know I am wanting to further develop my work by re-doing some of my flower shoots to get more detail in, for example in the first image I evaluated I said I would like to and capture an image like this as I have already attempted it but would like to try it again.
