Lady Gaga Digipack Analysis

This is the front cover of the digipack. Right at the centre of the album is the artist. She seems as if she is naked, using only her hair to cover herself. This can be a voyeuristic technique, which can sell to the male audience. The title of the digipak is written in gold, capital letters in bold, which stands out from the black and white background. The colour gold can represent ‘Fame’ which is written in the title. Also she is seen quite unhappy, with black teardrops which is quite unusual, but is her unique style which her fans can understand. As her hair is pretty scruffy, it can represent her being the ‘Monster’ written in the title.

This is the back of the digipack. It again displays a close-up photograph of her. She is wearing glasses, hiding most of her identity. This again could be part of her original ‘style’. This photograph, unlike the front cover, is in colour, which stands out to the buyer.

When you open up the digipack, you instantly see more pictures of the artist, focusing all your attention on nothing but her. The pictures inside of her looking quite fragile and upset are in black and white, which is a change from the colour photograph where she looks quite healthy and fresh. These contrasting pictures can represent her battle between fame and normality.

When you open up the digipack, we see too CDs, both with ‘Lady Gaga The Fame Monster’ written on them in capital, bold white letters. This can catch the buyer’s eye immediately. The white colour stands out from the black background, and again goes well with the black and white photographs. It makes the digipack as a whole quite bold.

Inside the digipack was an extra booklet. The cover of the booklet was another black and white photograph of the artist, again hiding most of her identity. The colours black and white immensely stand out, and seem to make quite a bold statement. Even though no colour is used, it still attracts attention.

As you turn the pages of the booklet, you see close up pictures, which are in colour of the artist, dressed up in glamorous clothing and expensive diamonds. The whole sense of the digipack goes well with the title as it shows the battle between herself and her fame. The photographs show different sides to her which her fans may be interested in. This can make the buyers feel as if they know her better and feel intimate with her emotions.

The booklet also contains the lyrics to all the songs on her album. Again the colours displayed are black and white, which stands out to the digipack holder. The lyrics are there for her buyers to read and understand the real meaning behind her songs.

The booklet also includes a pullout poster. This can make the buyer feel as if they got more for their money. The booklet is what makes a digipack different to an average album. The digipack includes extra things that the buyer might enjoy, in this case the poster and lyrics.
