How did you use media technologies in the
construction and research, planning and evaluation
stages?
Evaluation question 4
To present my coursework, a blogger account was needed.
I had used blogger before in AS, so I already had an account and so I just needed to create a newblog. Blogger is a good way to display my progression from the research stage to the evaluation stage of my coursework.
Research
Most of my research was conducted second handedly via the internet. The research for my billboard magazine proved most difficult as I struggled to find any examples of bilboards just through Google so I attempted to contact some regional magazines but there was no response.I did however come across a blog of a past media student who had succeeded in finding an example which I used as inspiration for my ancillary task. One of the most useful websites I used for research was ‘Issuu’, a site specifically for users to gain access to online copies of various magazines.I also used physical copies of magazines for my research, but having them all in one place was far more convenient.
Another part of my research involved making a focus group to get their opinions and advice throughout the whole process.
This was done by making a Facebook group, something I had prior experience in.
This allowed me to easily contact my focus group and gain quick responses.
Planning
To plan for my production I used Photoshop to make mock ups to develop my skills before starting the real thing.
I used Google to find images similar to ones I wished to use in my finalproduction in order to get an idea of how the images I had pictured would look.
Construction
Again I used Photoshop, which was my main production tool along with Weebly.
Weebly was used to create the ancillary task of making a website.
As I had prior experience with photoshop from AS level, I was already rather accustomed to it.
Weebly however was a new programme to me and therefore I had to use some tutorials found online as well as trial and error to get my desired result.
For my images I used a Canon 700D. I had plenty of experience with these cameras from year 12, however the images required for this production were very different as I needed pictures of places rather than people, meaning I had to do more research into the camera and the settings to produce the photos I desired.
Evaluation
• For my evaluation I used Microsoft Powerpoint, and to present this I used slideshare and then embedded the file into a blog post.
• Before I could do this however, I needed to search for a tutorial which I found through Google on www.mybloggerlab.com as I couldn’t remember the process.
