Enhancing an Image on Photoshop

This is the original version of my front cover image. Before I made any adjustments, the image was acceptable, however I realise that Photoshop is an important piece of software that can correct flaws and enhance an image in a variety of ways. It is a tool widely used in the media industry and, as I want my magazine to look as professional as

possible, I have chosen to utilise it as best I can. Because the model is making direct gaze with the camera, her eyes will be one of the first things focused upon by readers. For this reason I have decided to focus my editing of the face predominantly on her eyes. Whilst constructing my front cover I also edited many other aspects of the model’s face. These include getting rid of blemishes and wrinkles, as well as reducing shine.

The first thing I altered about the eyes was the colour. I did this by using the paint brush tool and choosing an appropriate shade of blue. I then painted over the iris and changed the style of the brush to ‘overlay’. This meant that the brush was no longer harsh and blocky, but rather added a subtle blue colour to the existing iris. I then had to change the opacity to ensure that the colouring was still realistic.

Secondly I decided to enlarge the pupils slightly as I felt it would make the model seem more endearing. I did this by experimenting with the liquify and warp filter tools. I then used the clone tool in order to make it more realistic. Once I was happy with the size and new appearance, I once again used the paintbrush tool to go over the eye shine. This, again, makes the image look more true to life.

Finally I used the paintbrush tool again to give my model the impression of wearing darker eyeliner, as I believe this helps to accentuate the eyes further. I also lengthened the eyelashes slightly until I was completely happy that the eyes would be my model’s most prominent feature.
