DEVELOPMENT OF MY ALBUM ART

This PowerPoint will show the stages of development of my Album Art which I created using the program Adobe Photoshop.

Stage 1 – Front Cover

The first stage was to find a background that would appeal to my target audience (creative/experimental) as well as fit the name of my album ‘Quantum Physics’ so I decided on a Sci-Fi theme and found that ‘Space’ was the most appropriate solution.

Stage 2 – Front Cover

The next step was to decide what font to use for my album art, for this I used a website www.1001freefonts.com where I have subscribed to use their fonts. I wanted a Sci-Fi style of font so I decided on ‘Quantum’. I used Photoshop to edit out the background and add an ‘outer glow’ effect for the Band and Album name to distinguish itself from the actual album background.

Stage 3 – Front Cover

I decided to then incorporate two disco balls as the planets in the ‘Space’ themed background. This represents that this music genre is global and also represents the genre of music (Electro/House) as it combines with the Sci-Fi theme to give this representation. I feel that the Disco Balls and the Sci-Fi theme complement each other in terms of representation.

Stage 4 – Front Cover

As my genre of music is aimed at an audience between the ages of 16 – 30 I have decided to include a parental advisory logo which I have manipulated for it to merge in with the Sci-Fi theme. This emphasizes the logo, being surrounded by shooting stars to add to the electro representation shown. I have used Adobe Photoshop to create the stars through shape templates.

Stage 5 – Front Cover

In my next step I incorporated a space man which in a way is used to represent the band themselves, that they are confident in themselves and going global with their music. I then decided to add a twist by giving the spaceman a pair of butterfly wings which codes for a natural feel for the music that the music is original, giving an overall representation of the genre of music.

Stage 6 – Front Cover

The final stages of the creating my front cover of my album art I elected to incorporate more codes for musicianship so I used headphones to code for this, which also is used to code for the dance / electro genre of music. I then added to the Sci-Fi theme and add something related to the name of the album ‘Quantum Physics’ so I used physics signs as the finishing touches to my album art design.

Stage 1 – Back Cover

To keep consistency amongst my album art I decided to make my back cover keep within the same theme as my front cover. I used this as my background but had to add extra layers to the back cover as the background image wasn’t large enough to fill the required size.

Stage 2 – Back Cover

A typical convention of a back cover would be that it has the soundtrack of the album listing the songs it consists of. So I decided to use www.1001freefonts.com and used the same font as I used on my Front cover (Quantum) to keep consistency amongst the album art. I then used Adobe Photoshop tools to edit this and add an outer glow to make it stand out and distinguish itself from the background

Stage 3 – Back Cover

I then included other typical conventions of an album back cover these being a barcode, the record company and a ‘compact disc’ logo which you will find on most album back covers.

Stage 4 – Back Cover

For my finishing touches of the album art I thought I’d use a picture to add more detail to the back cover rather than leave it blank so I used the main image on the front cover. Instead I rotated the image as it also adds to the effect of space that the spaceman is just floating (due to gravity) relaxed to the music.
