Actors, Costumes and Props

ActorsTo play the part of Jive I have chosen Faegan White. I have used him before in my previous films and I really enjoy working with him; he is reliable, versatile and is up for doing a lot of things. Since there is only one protagonist in my music video it should be fairly easy to shoot – in doing so I have eradicated the need for organising a large number of people every time I want to shoot something. I have spoken through my ideas with Faegan and he bounced back some ideas, stating what he would like to do and what he would rather not do, sometimes suggesting improvements. I would like for

him to play the role quite straight, with little expression of emotion necessary. He is required, and willing to perform a lot of physical activities, even willing to shave off his hair for the video. This is however something he had been planning on doing for a while now, I just caught him at a good time.

ActorsMy brother Chris has agreed to dress up as Peter Blake’s ‘self-portrait with badges’ and feature at the end of the video. The role is fairly minor and even though he is currently studying at drama school, I haven’t chosen him because the role requires any particular acting skill. I picked him more because of his convenience, being my brother. Furthermore, I didn’t want him to play the role of Jive because he is not free as much as Faegan, this is again because he is at drama school at the moment.

CostumesJive – For the role I want Faegan to wear black jeans, black boots, and a white t-shirt with a red jumper. My initial intention was all black and no jumper, however I wanted something that would set him out against the darker backgrounds better so he’s now in white and red. Also, since it’s December he will be freezing in just a t-shirt so that’s why, for practical reasons, he is wearing a jumper. I chose red because it connotes danger, suitable for this video, and is a very striking colour.

Man with badges – The costume for this role is a lot more specific, because it is mirroring an actual painting. He needs to wear a red polo shirt, denim jacket, denim jeans, converse shoes and hold an ‘Elvis’ magazine.

PropsThe props I will need for this video are very limited. I will only require an ‘Elvis’ magazine (something I can create myself) and a plastic toy dinosaur. These will both be fairly easy to source and shouldn’t cause any problems.
