Greece Geography• Greece is located on a peninsula in the

Mediterranean Sea

• It is almost completely surrounded by water

• The large island at the bottom of the map is the island of Crete

Greece Geography

• Much of Greece contains mountains, rocky terrain and valleys (80 % is mountainous)

• In the ancient world, Greeks made a living from the sea becoming fishers, sailors and traders

• Due to the terrain, mountains and seas divided ancient Greeks from one another which caused Greek communities to grow very independent

Rome Geography• Rome is the capital in the center of the

European country Italy

• Italy is a peninsula that extends into the Mediterranean Sea and looks like a boot

• The large island to the south of Italy is Sicily

Rome Geography• The terrain in Italy is combination of

mountains and flat plains (very similar to Greece)

• The large mountain range, the Alps, exist here but are not as rugged as Greece’s mountains

• Due to this, Romans were not as isolated as the ancient Greeks because their mountains were easier to cross

• In the ancient world, most Romans lived in the country where they were farmers
