PresenterPresentation NotesIn a close partnership, Polycom is building an cloud-based interop service that works with Skype for Business Online. This interop service is hosted in the Microsoft Cloud and uses Microsoft Azure.
The service is able to be discovered within and purchased via the Office 365 Portal. Once purchased users can be enabled from within Office 365 to benefit from the interop service, and be able to schedule meetings that can be joined by non-native meeting device endpoints.
For end-users the usual meeting workflow remains the same, be it that now in the Outlook invite to the Skype Meeting an extra link will be embedded in the invite through which the non-native devices can join. The device then will join a Skype Meeting, and will be able to get all the benefits from a Skype Meeting, with HD audio and video, as well a two way desktop and application sharing.
The technology of the Polycom interop service is extending the years-long experience of Polycoms proven Realconnect technology, and supports a long tail of non-native devices by Polycom, Cisco or other legacy VTCs.
, that enables keeping the meeting in Skype for Business, with a great experience (and being able to leverage all the innovation that we bring in that space) and full integration with the MS workflow-Acano uses Virtual Meeting Rooms to provide Interop with Skype for business online, which doesnt provide a good experience and it is not integrated with MS workflow. (our discussions with them in the past, were related to bring the same experience that we are going to deliver with Polycom)
Cloud Video InteroperabilityQ. Will the VTC interoperability with Office 365 be a Microsoft service or a Polycom service? Can you provide more details?A. Polycom announced today that they will provide a VTC interoperability service, delivered from the Microsoft cloud. This will be a Polycom service, and we will work closely with them to ensure it is readily available to Office 365 customers. Polycom will provide additional details on their plans in the future.

Project RigelQ. What did you show on stage at Enterprise Connect today regarding Project Rigel? Was it a new Surface device? A. Today at Enterprise Connect we showed Project Rigel, an initiative that will bring a Skype Meeting experience pioneered on Microsoft Surface Hub to nearly any meeting room with a display or projector. It will use Windows 10-based tablets for center-of-room touch control, and Skype for Business online meeting technology to easily connect remote users. The device we used onstage was a Surface Pro 4, but we have not announced any product plans and expect to share more in the coming months.Q. Will Microsoft ship a new Surface device built for Project Rigel?A. We have not yet disclosed formal product plans, but we expect to share more in the coming months.Q. Will other Windows 10 OEMs be able to create devices based off of Project Rigel specs?A. We will have more information to share on how the ecosystem can participate in building Project Rigel-based solutions in the coming months.Q. Is Project Rigel a software project or a hardware project for Microsoft, or both? A. To deliver the right experience to existing meeting rooms will take a combination of software and hardware. Project Rigel will build on Windows 10, Skype for Business, and the expertise of partners like Logitech and Polycom.Q. Will both Surface Hub and Surface channel partners sell this new solution as well?A. While we expect Project Rigel systems to be complementary to our industry leading Surface Hub, its too early to comment on distribution details or the plans of our channel partners. Q. When will the new offerings for Skype for Business announced by Polycom and Logitech be available? A. We cannot comment on the specific product plans of other companies. You can refer to the Polycom press release and Logitech blog post for details. Q. Are Polycom and Logitech the only hardware partners that will expand their portfolios with hardware for use with Project Rigel systems? A. Polycom and Logitech both announced their intentions to deliver solutions based on Project Rigel. We expect other partners to participate in the future.Q. How is the experience of Project Rigel in a conference room better than the experience of Skype for Business loaded on my personal Surface? How does it compare?A. Both will provide a tremendous meeting experience, but they serve a different need. Skype for Business on a personal Surface allows an individual to communicate with colleagues using voice, video, and content sharing from nearly anywhere with Internet access in the office, at home, or on the road. A Project Rigel system will be dedicated to a single conference room, and will make it easy for a group of people in that room to meet with colleagues who are unable to join in person. Both will take advantage of the industry leading Skype for Business meeting experience and the ease of use and manageability of Windows 10. Q. How will Project Rigel systems compare with what Surface Hub offers? A. While weve not yet announced product or offering details for Project Rigel, we can describe some important differences we expect. With its unique combination of large touch screen, ability to run Office and other Windows 10 applications, and integrated Skype for Business meeting experience, Surface Hub provides an ideal solution for people to meet and create together. Project Rigel on the other hand will extend Windows 10 and the Skype for Business meeting experience into rooms with existing displays, and bring control of the meetings video, audio and content sharing to the center of the meeting room. Q. How will the cost of Project Rigel solutions compare to the cost of Surface Hub? Should customers reconsider their pre-order of Surface Hub and opt for Project Rigel to outfit their conference rooms instead? A. We have not yet announced product or offering details for Project Rigel, including pricing structure. That said, with its unique combination of large touch screen, ability to run Office and other Windows 10 applications, and integrated Skype for Business meeting experience, Surface Hub provides an ideal solution for any room where people meet and create together. Project Rigel systems, when available in the future, will extend Windows 10 and the Skype for Business meeting experience into rooms with existing displays, bring control of that experience to the center of the meeting room, and connect to a broad variety of audio and video solutions from Skype for Business partners.

PSTN CONFERNCING
In Skype for Business, a PSTN conference commonly known as a dial-in conference is any conference in which at least one participant dials in to the audio portion by using a PSTN (public switched telephone network) phone. The ability to use a phone to access a meeting is useful for individuals who are on the road or otherwise cannot attend a meeting using a mobile device or PC. Using a phone also can be a better option in other scenarios, such as when internet connectivity is limited or when a meeting is audio only.
With Skype for Business PSTN conferencing, users in your organization can host or create meetings that contain dial-in phone numbers. Callers can then use those phone numbers to call into a meeting using their phone (users who are dialing into a meeting will only get audio, not instant messages, shared desktops, or files being shared in the meeting). You only need to set up dial-in conferencing for users who plan to schedule or lead meetings. Unless the organizer has locked the meeting, anyone who has the dial-in number and conference ID can join the meeting.
We strive to create better experiences while users are in a meeting. Starting later in CY2017, dynamic conferencing IDs became the standard for all Skype for Business online meetings. dynamic conferencing IDs provide a unique conference ID for each Skype for Business meeting, offering enhanced security and smoother transitions between back-to-back meetings. For example, if a meeting organizers meeting is running long, the meeting will not be interrupted by a guest of his next scheduled meeting. This capability is unique to our PSTN conferencing features and superior to other providers who offer static IDs. Customers can chose to opt out of the feature by calling support.
[UPDATED 1/24/2017] The PSTN Conferencing introductory period end date has been extended to September 1, 2017. This extension is designed to give customers more time to understand and enable PSTN consumption billing. During the introductory period, tenants can continue to dial-out from within a SfB meeting without any cost within fair use unless the destination is noted as a Pay-as-you-go (PAYG) dial-out country. An assigned user will need PSTN consumption billing enabled in order to make a call to a PAYG country. The internal field advisory documents how domestic and international dial out will work. https://microsoft.sharepoint.com/sites/Infopedia_G03KC/_layouts/15/WopiFrame.aspx?sourcedoc={0212e27c-6b1c-48fc-b094-6c32d4677777}&action=default&DefaultItemOpen=1
NOTESAudio Features to include support for speech controlUsers can manage their own settingsEnd user operator support is under investigation. When more information is available, we will share that here.

Improve Meeting Experience with Automatic People-Tracking
PresenterPresentation NotesTraditionally in a meeting, people were required to manually control the camera with a remote control or touch pad. Using a remote control for the camera is frustrating and confusing for the majority of people. Even when someone does zoom in, it creates choppy, unnatural experience. IT teams create preset camera views but even this intimidates people in a meeting. Since most people leave the system as is when they come in for a meeting, they are missing out on the greatest benefit of video conferencing Seeing vital nonverbal cues!
New technology has emerged that automatically finds faces and frames everyone in the room. No one needs to use a remote control or do anything out of the ordinary. People simply walk in and work without the frustration of using technology. As people enter the room or leave, the camera notices and will reframe everyone in the room for the best view.
Finally, there is speaker tracking technology that goes one step further from group framing. A person can begin speaking and the camera will automatically zoom in to show them up close. This allows people at other sites to clearly see the nonverbal cues of that speaker, making the meeting more engaging and productive. When the active speakers stops the view returns to show the entire group before showing another active speaker if applicable. Its a natural meeting experience where technology doesnt get in the way of collaboration.

Pexip and Skype for Business Interoperability & Integration23 Mar 2017
Challenges
Three key technologies do not work well together: Skype for Business, traditional video conferencing, and WebRTC
Traditional conferencing infrastructure is based on custom hardware. It is very expensive, and complex to operate.
Enterprise technologies lack scale to provide all employees with virtual meeting rooms for voice, video and data
Interoperability Cost & Complexity Scalability
Challenges faced by enterprises using video collaboration
Datacenters and virtualization is the norm. Move to cloud has started. Collaboration infra-structure lags behind.

What is Cloud Connector?
PresenterPresentation NotesSo, a deployment of Cloud Connector itself is really just four virtual machines, running a Skype for Business 2015 Edge server, a Skype for Business 2015 Mediation Server, theres an Active Directory server or domain controller and theres a CMS or Central Management Server.
The first thing to note here is that when we say there is an Active Directory server. Its simply used by the application servers, these are entirely independent of the enterprises Active Directory infrastructure.
In regards to the server roles that youre familiar with, they are not quite the same. We have customized the Skype for Business deployment and the bits inside of the deployment, specifically as it relates to how we route signaling. Youll note that we dont have a conventional Front End server or Registrar role, so thats why we refer to this as a mashup of customized roles to make up the Cloud Connector deployment.
As youve probably figured out Cloud Connector is a stateless application, that dont really know anything about the users, since these users are homed in the cloud, they are not homed on-premises. For the most part, were probably 98% the same code we have in a standard Skype for Business deployment, with that 2% of customization to address some of the Cloud Connector requirements with things like custom static routes.
These VMs are deployed on top of hardware provided by the customer in this iteration, eventually our goal is to be an appliance based solution that the customer configures in the cloud, a synchronization of sorts happens and then the device is configured with that information.
Requirements for Cloud Connector deployment

PresenterPresentation NotesThere can be no more than 30% ext users. When external, both Edge and Mediation resources in use. Internal, only mediation.

PresenterPresentation NotesSo lets look under the covers of a typical Cloud Connector deployment and talk about the Cloud Connector architecture. In this overview you can see I have a Cloud Connector deployment in the middle, which is located in the customers DMZ. We have John whos who is connecting remotely over the internet from his local coffee shop. Inside of the corporate network we have two PSTN gateways, we are showing those as PSTN Gateway 1 and PSTN Gateway 2. Weve got the customers internal Active Directory infrastructure and notice its not shared, connected or even trusted with the Cloud Connector deployment.
Lets look at the call flow in this animated example, remember that Media is always leveraging the on-premises assets. We have the SIP traffic talking to the Skype for Business Online infrastructure, which then routes that SIP traffic to the Edge server role within the Cloud Connector deployment. The Edge role routes the SIP signaling to the Mediation Server and then to the PSTN Gateway.
Media in this scenario flows from John, to the Edge server role, to the Mediation Server and to the on-premises PSTN Gateway.
Other things to note, which we call out on the left is that when you deploy Cloud Connector, we create our own AD DS forest for Cloud Connector Edition, with no connectivity or dependency on the customers internal AD DS.
The dial plan assigned is an online dial plan which is assigned based on user location . We do have the ability to restrict international calling. External SIP DNS points at online Skype For Business, this is where the users registrar is located. There is no co-existence with on premises deployment of Skype For Business.
Users can be created on-premises and synchronized online using DirSync or created in Azure AD

PresenterPresentation NotesThe following is an example of a multi site scenario where we are keeping affinity to the local PSTN gateways. In this scenario Joanna is in Chicago, which is where PSTN Site 1 is located and her two cloud Connector deployments will not leverage the gateways in Hoboken or PSTN Site 2.
Maureen, who is assigned to PSTN Site 2, will leverage the CCE deployments in Hoboken, as set per the Set-CsUserPSTNSettings cmdlet .

PresenterPresentation NotesHow many gateways can be connected to Cloud Connector? There is no published limit, however recommendation is to plan number of ports accordingly. For example, there is no sense in deploying 6 gateways with 20 ports each, instead recommendation is to deploy two gateways with 60 ports each.
