HYPERBOLES

Definition from wordcentral.com :extravagant exaggeration used to emphasize a point <"mile-high ice cream cones>" is an example of hyperbole because there can not be a mile high of ice cream cones. It exaggerates.

Definition from dicitionary.com :1. obvious and intentional exaggeration. 2. an extravagant statement or figure of speech not intended to be taken literally, as “to wait an eternity.”

My definition: A hyperbole is a figure of speech that extremely exaggerates the subject. For example, “I was so thirsty, I could have drank the whole ocean!” This is a Hyperbole because no one would ever drink the whole ocean.
