LASER PRINTERWhat is a Laser Printer?

It is something which uses a xerographic process to print high quality printouts and graphics easily and quickly.

LASER PRINTERHow does it work?

Charging

The corona wire negatively charges the Photoreceptor Drum Assembly.

LASER PRINTERHow does it work?

Exposure

The laser discharges areas of the PDA, drawing an electrostatic image.

LASER PRINTERHow does it work?

Developing

Printer coats PDA with toner, a fine black negatively-charged powder. Because of its

charge, it sticks only to the electrostatic image.

LASER PRINTERHow does it work?

TransferringPaper passing through is given a stronger positive charge by the transfer corona wire. This is so it can

pull out the image stuck in the drum.

Since the paper might get stuck to the drum, the detaccorona wire discharges the paper after picking up the

toner.

LASER PRINTERHow does it work?

Fusing

It finally passes through heated rollers, called fusers. It fuses the toner and the paper

together. Paper doesn't burn for it passes through so quickly.

LASER PRINTERHow does it work?

Cleaning

Before the process can start again, the PDA in the printer is exposed to a discharge lamp,

neutralizing the drum assembly.

The Physics Behind It…The simple concept of static electricity.
