What are pulse switches?
• Bistable relay• DIN-rail mounting• Operated by pushbutton• Often low safety driving current voltage• Used in controlling lights

Conventional installation
• We want an extra switch for light point 1, next to switch 2.
• To do this, we need to:– Add two wires between switches 1 and 2– Replace switch 2 with a double single-pole one
• Problems:– If cable is used between 1 and 2: it is not possible– If tube with wire: sometimes possible (depending
on type of tube and number of wires already present)

• We want an extra pushbutton for light point 1, next to pushbutton 2.
• To do this, we need to:– Replace pushbutton 2 with a double pushbutton– Connect pushbutton 3 using the same wire as for
pushbutton 1
• Problems:– None

Additional pulse switches options (1)
• Central on/central off• Group control on/off

Additional pulse switches options (2)
• Combined with timed relay– Short push: timed relay on– Push > 1 sec.: switch on– Push > 2 sec.: switch off– Possibility of warning before lamp goes out
• 30 sec. before time runs out• Example:
– ES position: pulse switch– ER position: monostable relay– ESV position: timed relay

Advantages• Increased flexibility of installation
– Easy to adapt and extend• More options
– Local control– Group controls– Central controls– Timed controls
• Driving circuit usually low safety voltage– e.g. with 24V AC transformer
• Less grinding and cutting work in the walls• Ceilings need not be perforated• Installation can be converted to an integrated home system with
star topology

Disadvantages
• A little bit more installation work• A little bit more expensive – To be considered in relation to advantages and
options
