Web BrowsersThere are five main web browsers that are used by a majority of people in North America to view websites. Internet Explorer, Firefox®, Chrome, Safari and Opera .

Internet Explorer Internet Explorer or IE is a browser built by Microsoft®. Internet Explorer is available for Windows® and has a Market Share of nearly 60%.

Firefox® Firefox® is a browser built by Mozilla®. Firefox® is available for both Windows® and Mac and is the second most used browser at 23%.

Chrome Chrome is a browser built by Google. Chrome is available for both Windows® and Mac and has 7% of the Market Share.

Safari Safari is a browser built by Apple. Safari is available for both Windows® and Mac and has a 5% Market Share.

Opera Opera is a browser built by Opera Software. Opera is available for both Windows® and Mac and has a 3% Market Share.

Using Internet Explorer There are many features that are new or that have changed in latest versions.

Working with TabsTabs give the user the ability to have multiple websites open at the same time in one browser window.Each website loads and resides independently in a separate tab window for access at any time by clicking on the tab.

Working with TabsUsing Tabs makes for efficient surfing.

Tabs in Other BrowsersTabs look and function in a similar manner in other Browsers.

FavoritesThis is a great way to keep track of websites that are visited frequently. There is a Favorites button and a Favorites Bar; both can be modified.

Saving FavoritesClick on the Favorites button to access, save and manage all Favorites, Feeds and History.

Saving to the Favorites BarThis is an area to store important websites for quick, easy access.

Home ButtonThis is the button to click to load the Home Page. This is also the area to change the Home Page, and now more than one website can be saved as a Home Page making this a powerful button.

Suggested Sites

This is an area that will suggest websites similarto the sites you

have been visiting.

Private BrowsingInPrivate Browsing is a way to browse the Internet without leaving a trail of information in your browser for others to see. History, cookies and temporary files will not be stored.

Pop-up BlockerThis feature will let the user manage and limit those often annoying pop-up windows.

Search EnginesSearching the Internet for information is usually done with a search engine. The two main search engines in Northern America are Google™, and Bing™.

Google is the search engine giant that is used for over 80% of all searches online.

Bing is the latest Microsoft® search engine release that went public in June 2009. Bing’s market share is still very small but has been growing quickly.

Basic SearchAs text is typed in the search box, Query Suggestions start to appear.

Advanced SearchesGoogle has an Advanced Search to help produce better results. Words, phrases and other options can be added to the search while specific words can also be excluded.

Search Tips and TricksBy arranging and using certain characters in the search window, you can unlock many powerful search functions and get more precise search results.

Finding ImagesImage Search can be used to find plenty of images in many different sizes and formats. Searches can be narrowed down to clip art, line art, faces, icons, etc. There is also an advanced image search.
