CASE STUDY: How radio based CCTV saved ASDA and Drayton Manor Theme Park disruption and costs

Preview:

DESCRIPTION

This case study looks at the cost reductions and operational disruption reduction wireless solutions brought to ASDA. The store was looking to connect its fuel stations without disrupting core trading activity as well as improving surveillance capabilities in its forecourts. It will also go through examples from other installations, in particular a large EPOS data network at Drayton Manor Theme Park, to show how wireless is a real alternative for IP Security solution and Data Networks for delivering clear cost savings.

Asda Petrol Station Project

Project Outline and Requirements

* New 24Hr Petrol Station* A local controlled CCTV system

Required functions. * To enable instore security to monitor the facility at any time.* To give local instore recording of the facility. * To enable single man tanker drivers to deliver fuel 24hrs a day.

Specification Outline

* Video system specified by Sensibal Security.* System of 1 IP Day / Night PTZ Dome camera and recording equipment.* Recording and viewing needed to be located in secure room at the main store* Available at the security console.* FreeSpace to provide a full site survey and report wireless assessment & project recommendations.* Very cost sensitive.

Site Survey

* Sweep the local area for radio and wifi signals.* Using dual band omni directional attenna a full analysis and wireless scan across the 2.4Ghz and 5GHz U-NII and ISM spectrum.* Assess possible positions of the camera and the radio kit.* Review the LOS between the store and petrol station.* Record all reading and notes for survey report.

Site Survey Report, Recommendations and Installation Guide

Network Topology

Option 1:A Single Point to Point (PtP) link with high powered units.

Option 2:Two Point to Point (PtP) links with a repeater station in the middle.

FS2000-cp

• Includes:– Radio Units– PoE power supplies– Externally graded network cable– Mounting kit

Basic IP Camera Installation

Project conclusion

* Installed and operational in single day.* Upon power up all systems functioned.

3 Months on

All systems currently working fine. Some changes made on the matrix setup but this did not affect the wireless and the system has been signed off completed and approved for other locations.

Future Expansion

Drayton Manor Project

Project Outline and Requirements

* Fast, secure networking of Picture sales booths and Introduction of a new Central Sales Point

Required functions. * To enable EPOS and Image data to be trafficed around the park.* All current standalone systems to be networked. * Minimum or Zero impact on normal park operations.* Flexible to enable sales booths to be moved as is req’d upon park layout changes. Specification Outline

* PicSolve to ensure all systems will function once networked.* Recording and viewing needed to be located in secure main control room.* Access to other systems via this control room.* PicSolve to install and configure all equipment.* Disruption must be kept to absolute minimum.* FreeSpace to offer final days onsite support.

Network Topology

Multipoint system with upto 7 nodes all using our “Inter-Client Bridge” facility.

Simple Multipoint Setup

Project conclusion

* Installed over period approx 3mths as and when on-site engineers had free time.* Very slow process, but that was expected* Upon power up all systems functioned and where configured to site network plan.* This brought each unit on one at a time.

Months on

All systems currently working fine. Central Sales now running. Control room also has broadband so offsite work can also now be achieved. Systems evaluation and improvement are ongoing and additional projects are being reviewed.
