Session Overview

Being Smart With Social Media

As social media outlets continue to dominate the way that so many of us communicate, it’s important to make sure you

maintain a professional presence online. Be responsible with what you post, because once it's out there, there's no telling who will see it. In this session you will learn not only what not to do, but

how to use these platforms to your advantage.

Facebook

Dos & Don’ts

Do: Post about your interests & fun things that are happening in your life. Don’t: Post about how you are looking for a fake ID hookup; how your friend hung out with some weirdo last night; or how you are going to play hooky so you can go hit up the mall. It makes you look dumb, and all of those things ARE dumb. So just don’t.

Facebook

Dos & Don’ts

Do: Post nice photos of you and your friends. Don’t: Photos that you wouldn’t want your mom, boss, or teacher to see. Not cute.

Being Smart With Social Media

Dear Cyber-Bullies, Your moms are on Facebook (Excerpt from citymama.typepad.com) Last week, a dear friend of mine emailed me a link to Facebook "hate group," created about her son. After getting over the initial shock which included my heart breaking into roughly a thousand pieces, several thoughts ran through my head: "Who are these kids?" "Why would they do such a thing?" "Do their parents know?" "Why weren't more kids posting comments that this was wrong?" …But then we noticed something. Something these kids probably didn't think about: I had one mutual friend in common with MANY of those kids.
