S t. John’s Prep. and Senior School are proud to an-
nounce the opening of our brand new outdoor multi use sports area. It has been designed using a Tiger
Turf Pro surface, providing an outstanding facility for our pu-pils to play Hockey, Tennis, Netball and 5 aside football on.
This new addition to our Sports Department is part of a big-ger goal to provide all St. John’s pupils with the very best fa-cilities in sport. The next phase is the building of our new
changing rooms and showers, which have already begun and are due for completion on September 5th, 2014. We invite all parents to come and view the developments in
sport at St. John’s and to speak to a member of our P.E. staff for more details. We also look forward to hosting a pupil and parents tennis
tournament in the summer so we hope to see you soon!

U13’s North London Netball Champions
On the 31st March, St. John’s U13’s Netball Team competed in the North London Independent Schools Netball
Tournament, held at St. John’s Senior School. The girls played a variety of schools including The Kings and Northbridge House, conceding no goals in any of their games. This is a great achievement when playing against highly skilled schools. St. John’s were undefeated in all games
played in the tournament; this led them to be crowned champi-ons of the North London Tournament. A special mention goes to Jasmine Harvey-Stone for her excellent defending skills and
important interceptions. Well done girls!

Netball Super League Trip
Boxing
Outdoor Pursuits
Since January boxing has been buzzing at St. John’s. The
lunchtime club has been well attended and many a punch
thrown. Luckily for me not many punches have landed on my
head, although Andreas Melekis has been trying his best to
do so. Reshat Osman has really improved and the two boys
have worked so hard to learn and develop sparring skills. I
have to say I will miss the boys next year. Up and coming
talent in the 2nd Form promises to fill their place admirably
and wish them all the best.
Mr. Hodgson
On the 10th February St. John’s 3rd, 4th
and senior teams visited Hertfordshire University for a Netball Super League fix-ture, the Hertfordshire Mavericks were
playing against Manchester Thunders. The overall score finished at 38 - 48, with the Thunders winning the game. All the girls had a fantastic time and were able to
watch some professional England Netball players. Overall, the girls were a pleasure
to take to the game and all came back with
new ideas and skill to put into their own
netball.
Over the past term a number of pupil’s have been attending Harlow Outdoor Pursuits Centre. Whilst at
the centre, the pupils have experienced Canoeing, Rock Climbing and Mountain Biking. The pupils Rock
climbing required them to learn how to work well in a team to allow
each other to climb safely. The pupils were able to explore the
climbing routes assessing their ability and striving to climb higher and
more complex walls. When Mountain Biking the pupils were cycling
along the canal working on a range of terrains. The pupils learnt how
to use their bike to overcome problems such as large hills, puddles
and debris on the floor. Although the weather was poor on most
days the pupils still rode with a smile on their faces and got to en-
counter some very large puddles! Finally, the pupils did kayaking; they
learnt how to travel around the canal safely in their kayaks. They
were taught basic strokes allowing them to be in full control of their
kayaks. Overall, the pupils had the opportunity to try some new
sports and be challenged both physically and mentally along the way.
