How do planes fly?

We asked children what they thought.

What do other people think?

• Breanna said: With wings and the engine and the

pilot the shape of the plane……..

Renyk said: they’ve got speed and wings to fly and they need … they’ve got things called drag, lift and weight… a

propeller or something. They need air and speed to get up in the air.

• Jamie said: Thrust and then there’s lift. Lift is

created by the shape of the wing, low pressure and high pressure.

Thrust is like, the engine in a car. Its in the front, they are on the wings in a place. There’s also drag.

• Planes use engines to move quickly down the runway to create the lift for take off.

• Plane wings are build to be curved on top and flat on the bottom. The air moves faster over the top of the wing and the air going under gives the wing lift.
