Participant Eligibility

• Age: 19 and over• Deaf and Disabled People• Employment Status: Unemployed or in part time

job / education.• Geographical Area:

– Southampton + Eastleigh (Maximus)– Portsmouth, Isle of Wight + Hampshire (CDG)– Kent, Sussex + Surrey (RBLI)– Redhill (YMCA Redhill)– Currently looking at host organisations in Berkshire

and Oxfordshire

Objectives of Coachability

• Provide people with the skills and qualifications to work as sports coaches in local community.

• Increase awareness that deaf and disabled people can play sport and coach sport.

• More Deaf and disabled people working in sport either in paid work or volunteering placements.

About the course

• This course is free.

• This 5 day course can be done in 1 week or 5 separate days in a venue locally.

• Minimum 35 hours must be completed.

– Dering for Deaf People and other areas that are not covered by partners. (e.g. Reading)

– RNIB for Blind People

• Location

– Southampton + Eastleigh (Maximus)

– Portsmouth, Isle of Wright and Hampshire (CDG)

– Kent, Surrey + Sussex (RBLI)

– Redhill (YMCA Redhill)

• Promotion: – Leaflet, Poster and Banner Stands

• Presentations: – Brain Injury Centres– Deaf Clubs– Conferences– Employment Fayres– Dering Employment Centres

• Courses currently running or planned:– Brain Injury Centre (Half way through)

– Margate Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI) (Start on May 19th)

– Deaf group in Brighton (Start on May 20th)

– Maximus group in Southampton (First week of June)

– RNIB group in Brighton (2nd week of July)

– Dering Group in Southampton (3rd week of July)

NGB (Sport Coaching Courses)

• So then participants will get their opportunity to get involved in Level 1 / 2 sport coaching course of their choice if they are interested to learn the course.

• Dering will, again, pay the costs for participants to get involved in sports coaching courses
