road users

Phillip Jordan, Consultant

Road Safety International Pty Ltd

Keep footpaths clear

What can we do to assist motorcyclists?

Consistency – no surprises Smooth surface Lateral space Sealed shoulders The same good traffic management that cars, trucks and buses require Forgiving roadsides

Road engineers have a dilemma

Very rough road – low speeds. Crashes minor

Excellent (if smooth) road – higher speed. Crashes serious

Sealed shoulders – shown to lead to

12% reduction in casualty crashes

Bicyclists

Give bicyclists space, connectivity, and a smooth riding surface
