The Gospel of Luke 19:1-10

1 He entered Jericho and was passing

The Gospel of Luke 19:1-10

through. 2 And behold, there was a manname Zacchaeus. He was a chief taxcollector and was rich.

“He was the kingpin of the Jericho tax cartel and had the scruples

of a modern-day crack dealer. He was filthy

rich in the fullest sense of the term.”

3 And he was seeking to see who Jesus

The Gospel of Luke 19:1-10

was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was small in stature. 4 So he ran on ahead and climb-ed up into a sycamore tree to see him,for he was about to pass that way.

5 And when Jesus came to the place, he

The Gospel of Luke 19:1-10

looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for I must stay atyour house today.”

Key Point

Long before you ever became interested in Jesus,

Jesus was already deeply interested in you.

6 So he hurried and came down and

The Gospel of Luke 19:1-10

received him joyfully.

“…to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the

right to become children of God….”

~ The Gospel of John, 1:12

Jesus I do now receive HimMore than all in Him I find

He has granted me forgivenessI am His, and He is mine

Hallelujah! What a Saviour!Hallelujah! What a Friend!

7 And when they saw it, they all grumbled,

The Gospel of Luke 19:1-10

“He has gone in to be the guest of a manwho is a sinner.”

8 And Zacchaeus stood and said to the

The Gospel of Luke 19:1-10

Lord, “Behold, Lord, the half of my goodsI give to the poor. And if I have defraudedanyone of anything, I restore it fourfold.”

“…they should repent and turn to God, performing deeds in keeping with

repentance.”~ Acts 26:20

Key Point

Jesus is the greatest treasure you could ever find.

9 And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation

The Gospel of Luke 19:1-10

has come to this house, since he also isa son of Abraham….”

10 “For the Son of Man came to seek

The Gospel of Luke 19:1-10

and to save the lost.”

I’m lost.

Life is found in being found

by Jesus.

Amazing Grace! How sweet the soundThat saved a wretch like me

I once was lost but now I’m foundWas blind but now I see

10 “For the Son of Man came to seek

The Gospel of Luke 19:1-10

and to save the lost.”

“And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is

an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall

not be destroyed.”~ Daniel 7:13-14

Why does Luke record this encounter in his historical

biography of Jesus?

Important Question

The mission of Jesus is to seek and to save

the lost.

Do we want to be found?

unsplash: Hoach Le Dinh

I sought the Lord, and afterward I knewHe moved my soul to seek him seeking me

It was not I that found, O Saviour trueNo, I was found by Thee

Does my heart beat with the missional heartbeat of Jesus?

?Have we lost a senseof the lostness

of the lost

May you know the joy of being found by Jesus

who came to seek and to save the lost.
