1 Corinthians 15:57

But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 John 2:15-17

15Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

16For everything in the world—the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does—comes not from the Father but from the world.

17The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever.

• Craving of sinful man• Lust of his eyes or lust of his flesh

• Pride of life or boasting for what he has or does

The Bible speaks of different meaning of the word “WORLD”.

1. John 3:16---16"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

2. Gen 1:1--- 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

3. 1 John 2:15--- 15Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

3 Major things to Overcome the world

We can overcome the world through:1.PRAYER2.FAITH3.CHARACTER/CHRIST-LIKENESS

3 Major things to Overcome the world1. PRAYER1. James 5:13---- 13Is any one of you

in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise.

2. Mt 7:7--- 7"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

3. James 4:2----2You want something but don't get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God.

3 Major things to Overcome the world

4. James 5:17-18---17Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. 18Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.

5. Phil 4:6---6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

I. PRAYER

A prayerful Christian is a powerful Christian.

A prayer less Christian is a powerless Christian.

We can overcome the world through:

1. Mark 11:22-24--- 22"Have[a] faith in God," Jesus answered. 23"I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. 24Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

II. FAITH

We can overcome the world through:

2. Mt 21:22-24-- 21Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done. 22If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.“

II. FAITH

We can overcome the world through:

3. James 5:13-15--- 13Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. 14Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.

II. FAITH

We can overcome the world through:

Matthew 8:5-13---5When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help. 6"Lord," he said, "my servant lies at home paralyzed and in terrible suffering." 7Jesus said to him, "I will go and heal him."

8The centurion replied, "Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed. 9For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and that one, 'Come,' and he comes. I say to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it."

FAITH

10When Jesus heard this, he was astonished and said

to those following him, "I tell you the truth, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith. 11I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.

12But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

13Then Jesus said to the centurion, "Go! It will be done just as you believed it would." And his servant was healed at that very hour.

Why faith is important?1. Hebrews 11:6---6And without faith

it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

2. Eph 2:8---8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—

How do we get this kind of faith?

Romans 10:17—17Consequently, faith comes from

hearing the message, and the message is heard through the

word of Christ.

We can overcome the world through:

3. CHARACTER/CHRIST-LIKENESSwe live and walk in love

James 5:13-1613Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is

anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. 14Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders

of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord.

15And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven.

16Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.

2. James 2:14-2614What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have

faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him?15Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and

daily food. 16If one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well; keep

warm and well fed," but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it?

17In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

18But someone will say, "You have faith; I have deeds."

Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do.

19You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.

20You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless?

21Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar?

22You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.

23And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness," and he was called God's friend.

24You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone.

25In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction?

26As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

1 Corinthians 13:1-81If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not

love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries

and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.

6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always

perseveres.  8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will

cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

Fake faith vs. genuine faith2 Peter 2:5-75if he did not spare the ancient world when he

brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;

6if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly;

7and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men

Galatians 5:22-23

22But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

23gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Hebrews 1:9

9You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;       therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions

by anointing you with the oil of joy."[a]

1 Thessalonians 4:7

7For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life.

Matthew 6:3333But seek first his kingdom and his

righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Only God’s children can overcome the world.

If we are God’s children, we need to seek God first, His Kingdom and His righteousness
