Godly Sorrow Produces
Repentance
2Co 7:9-11 NKJV Now I rejoice, not that you were made
sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were
made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss
from us in nothing. (10) For godly sorrow produces
repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the
sorrow of the world produces death. (11) For observe this
very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner: What
diligence it produced in you, what clearing of yourselves,
what indignation, what fear, what vehement desire, what
zeal, what vindication! In all things you proved yourselves to
be clear in this matter.
Repentance Bears Fruit
Neh 9:3 NKJV And they stood up in their place and read
from the Book of the Law of the LORD their God for one-
fourth of the day; and for another fourth they confessed and
worshiped the LORD their God.
Mat 3:5-8 NKJV Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the
region around the Jordan went out to him (6) and were
baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins. (7) But
when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to
his baptism, he said to them, "Brood of vipers! Who warned
you to flee from the wrath to come? (8) Therefore bear
fruits worthy of repentance,
Confession of Sins Required
Repentance and Confession go hand in hand
No Forgiveness without Confession
Talking about Public Confession for Public Sins
Jas 5:16 NKJV Confess your trespasses to one another,
and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The
effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
Confession of Sins Required
1Jn 1:7-10 NKJV But if we walk in the light as He is in
the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the
blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. (8)
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and
the truth is not in us. (9) If we confess our sins, He is
faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us
from all unrighteousness. (10) If we say that we have not
sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.
A Renewed Commitment to Serve
a Gracious and Merciful God
Confession begins the Repentance process
Rom 3:9-12 NKJV What then? Are we better than they? Not
at all. For we have previously charged both Jews and Greeks
that they are all under sin. (10) As it is written: "THERE IS
NONE RIGHTEOUS, NO, NOT ONE; (11) THERE IS
NONE WHO UNDERSTANDS; THERE IS NONE WHO
SEEKS AFTER GOD. (12) THEY HAVE ALL TURNED
ASIDE; THEY HAVE TOGETHER BECOME
UNPROFITABLE; THERE IS NONE WHO DOES GOOD,
NO, NOT ONE.“ (Rom. 3:23)
A Renewed Commitment to Serve
a Gracious and Merciful God
We NEED God’s Goodness and Grace
Neh 9:31-32 NKJV Nevertheless in Your great mercy You
did not utterly consume them nor forsake them; For You are
God, gracious and merciful. (32) "Now therefore, our God,
The great, the mighty, and awesome God, Who keeps
covenant and mercy: Do not let all the trouble seem small
before You That has come upon us, Our kings and our
princes, Our priests and our prophets, Our fathers and on all
Your people, From the days of the kings of Assyria until this
day.
Joh 3:16-17 NKJV For God so loved the world that He
gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him
should not perish but have everlasting life. (17) For God
did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world,
but that the world through Him might be saved.
