Instagram is a photo-sharingsocial media app that allows

users to take and uploadphotos from their smartphonecamera, add filters, captions

and location info and thenshare them with "followers."

On its release in 2010, Instagramwas initially an outlet for creativetypes and trendsetters wanting topost pics. But it quickly exploded inpopularity to become one of theleading social media apps foriPhone and Android, and waspurchased by Facebook in 2012 for$1 billion.

And, as of recently, users can shareup to 15 seconds of video with their

followers as well as photos.

You have the option of taking a new photousing Instagram’s in-app camera feature, orcan upload a shot you've prepared earlier

from your camera roll or photo gallery.

How Does It Work?

Then, choose from one of 19 filters toenhance your photo – everything from

sepia and black and white tones, tovintage-looking borders and frames.
