Keeping Fit As You Age

By Bruce Strebinger

When you hit 50 years old some men think that’s the end of being able to stay fit and maintain lean muscle mass.

• Create a workout plan that works for YOU. Suitable for your age.

• The workout plan needs to include strength-training exercises for muscle gains, as well as a decent amount of cardio to keep body fat percentages low to show off that muscle.

Understanding Your Body

• Your body will change as you get older. Only Natural.

• According to the American Council on Exercise Reports, adults on average lose one-half pound of muscle yearly.

• Without the proper diet and exercise this decrease in muscle is only going to get worse over time.

• Strength training exercises come in handy, to keep the muscle to fat ratio high and maintain strength of your bones, and connective tissues.

Weight Training

• Weight training exercises offer significant benefits, boosting your energy, raising your metabolic rate, stress relief, and helping prevent conditions such as high blood pressure.

• Trying to include at least 3 workouts a week can help gain muscle and reap the benefits of the workouts.

Don’t Forget Cardio

• Over the age of 50 cardio becomes extremely important.

• Improves your cardiovascular system, increases energy, and prevents disease.

• Exercises can include brisk walking, jogging, bike riding, jumping rope and rowing.

Diet

• It is no secret that a healthy diet to complement a workout plan is one of the most important elements to maintain a healthy body.

• Sticking to a clean diet full of vitamin rich fruits and veggies, and protein rich foods such as eggs nuts and cottage cheese have significant value.

• Stay hydrated

Safety First

• As you age you become more injury prone.

• Consulting with a trainer and you doctor for the proper diet and workout plans will guide you in the right direction to not only be healthy but to stay healthy.
