Changing Scenario

What  about  Pakistan  seed  Industry???

Issues and challenges to Pakistan Seed Industry

Access to good quality seeds

Weaknesses in seed delivery system

Post-harvest losses

Seed laws and other regulatory documents are not up to date

Inefficiencies and stringent rules in the variety registration processes and inspection

Lack of human resource development in seed technology

Lack of public-private partnership in seed technology

Status and economic value of Pakistan seed

industry

!  The majority of farmers get their seeds from the informal channels

!  The improvement of informal sector system have been limited or non-existent

!  Negative effects on agricultural productivity and the income of farmers and more particularly to poor and marginalized farmers

!  The commercial world seed market is approximately valued at US $ 30 billion.

!  Pakistan seed industry has made impressive strides from a modest beginning in seed production, from about 66,000 metric tons of various crops in 1976, to over 382,000 metric tons by 2010.

!  The total seed market in Pakistan is estimated at around 1.65 million tons (2010), with an estimated market value of approximately US$1.6 billion.
