DESCRIPTION

Differences between weather and climate and the factors which influence the weather

Citation preview

Block 4 – Lesson 4

The weather depends on

different conditions, such as

temperature, humidity, and

pressure in a place at a certain

time.

The climate is the average of the temperature,

humidity, rain, wind and atmospheric pressure in

a certain place over the years.

TH!NK

Does this phrase refer to a weather or climate:

“The sky is clear and there are a few clouds.”

MAIN CLIMATE FACTORS

There are 5 main factors that can determine

climate. They are:

• PRECIPITATION

• ATMOSPHERIC TEMPERATURE

• ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE

• ATMOSPHERIC HUMIDITY

• WIND

MAIN CLIMATE FACTORS

• PRECIPITATION

This depends on the humidity of air that

condenses into little water droplets floating in

the atmosphere. Some of them rise to the

atmosphere when the temperature lowers and

then they fall down as rain, hail or snow.

MAIN CLIMATE FACTORS

• ATMOSPHERIC TEMPERATURE

This refers to the amount or degree of heat in the

air at a specific place and time. It depends on the

intensity of sunlight, altitude, latitude and wind

currents.

MAIN CLIMATE FACTORS

• ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE

This varies with altitude. It is higher at sea level

and lower at higher altitude. It has a great

influence on flora and fauna.

MAIN CLIMATE FACTORS

• ATMOSPHERIC HUMIDITY

This is the amount of water vapor the air

contains. It varies according to climate

conditions.

MAIN CLIMATE FACTORS

• WIND

This is the movement of the air. Its intensity

depends on altitude, latitude and atmospheric

pressure.
