• Japan was worried about the US Navy in Hawaii, and
decided to strike the US before they could attack
them first.
•This was the sight of the US Navy base in Hawaii. The
Pacific fleet suffered terrible damage and thousands of soldiers and sailors died.
•The Japanese attacked on a Sunday morning because
they thought the U.S. soldiers would be less alert at that
time.
•The US Navy was able to recover from the attack on Pearl Harbor fairly quickly.
•President Roosevelt said it was a “day which would live
in infamy”.

•The day after Pearl Harbor, The United States Congress
declared war on Japan. Three days later, Japan’s allies:
Germany and Italy declared war on the U.S.
•The U.S. had now entered World War 2.
•The entire attack lasted just under two hours.
