First Leg
• Place Start flag• Place Start article• Find distance markers• Find ground marker possibilities• Note time / wind direction• Place 30 yard flag• Keep track of yardage walked
– each leg & total
1st Leg – Distance Markers
• Light pole between two fence poles
• Top of mountain
2nd leg – Markers
Distance:
• Middle tree (anything else?)
Ground:
• Darkened spot on ground, right of tree, in front of two smaller bushes– What does the corner ground marker look like
from the previous corner?– Add details when you are at the next corner
3rd leg – Changing Terrain
Distance:
• Red/white pole aligned to trunk of tree
Ground:
• Can’t be seen; over the hill
4th leg – Near & Far
Distance:
• Center between two trees
• Left side of brick wall
• Light pole
• Top of mountain
5th leg – Change of View
Distance:
• This is the same direction as the 1st leg, but the “view” has changed.
• Fence post
• Light pole
• Sketch mountains ridge to remember where pole aligns

Start flag and 30 yard flag line up to light pole and top of mountain distance markers
Start article left at flag

Discuss in advance how far “off” should you allow the handler/dog to get b4 speaking
