India is a land of colours, festivals and many flavours.

Like our food, languages and the people of our country, the textiles too differ to a great

extent. Almost every state has its own specific

weaving style. Here are 5 weaves of India that specific to

their states.

This beautiful state is famous for having weavers who make the most beautiful crepe and

chiffon saris, Kasida embroidered dresses and

pashmina shawls with delicate embroidery done by hand. The

wool used for making Pashmina comes from a special breed of

Kashmiri goat found in the high altitude regions of the

Himalayas.

Jammu & Kashmir

Harayana

The famous phulkari dupattas and shawls originate from this state of India. Dhurries, robes

and scarves with beautiful embroidery of intricate leaves and flowers can only be found

in this state. Phulkari is integrated into the lives of the women and is an indispensable

element in ceremonies

RajasthanBandhani and bandhej which are both tie and

dye methods of colouring fabric are specific to this state.

Fabrics of cotton, silk, crepe etc are dyed using this method. Prints like

dabu and bagru, sanganeri block prints are also well known.

Gujarat

The art of Patola print belongs to this state. It

incorporates vibrant colours with

geometrical designs. The state also has

various other block prints created with

vegetable dyes along with the famous

Kutchi embroidery.

MaharashtraThis is state well-known for its rich and exquisite Paithani brocade. These

saris are prized possessions of many. The embroidery for some of these saris is said to be done in threads of pure

gold. Most famous embroideray design for these saris is that of a

peacock.

Karnataka

Karnataka is home to mulberry silk and Mysore silk. These

drapes are a must-have for every Indian woman.

They come in various colors and different

kinds of embroideries. Belgaum is the hub for buying sarees in every

bride-to-be’s list.
