A formal approach must be developed to address people issues that arise due to uncertainty and resistance during transformation

Address the "human side" Systematically

Start at the Top

The leadership must change first to challenge and motivate the rest of the group, speaking with one voice and "walking the talk"

Involve Every Layer

Identify change catalysts at all levels as transformation programs progress through strategy, design, and implementation

Make the Formal Case

Articulation of a formal case for change and creation of a vision statement are invaluable opportunities to create or compel leadership

team alignment

Create Ownership

Leaders must take ownership to make change happen and be the zealots who create a critical mass among the workforce in favor of change

Communicate the Message

Reinforce core messages through regular, timely advice that is both inspirational and practicable

Assess the Cultural Landscape

Leaders must understand and account for culture and behaviors at each level of the organization

Address Culture Explicitly

Leaders should be explicit about the culture and underlying behaviors that will best support the new way of doing business

Prepare for the Unexpected

Continually reassess impact of change and organizations willingness and ability to adopt the next wave of transformation

Speak to the Individual

Be completely honest and explicit with individuals in communicating how their work will change and set new expectations for success
