Why You Should Avoid

Morning Coffee

If you’ve been following the advice ofincluding a good portion of your dailycarbohydrate intake at breakfast, you

might want to skip your morning coffee—unless it’s decaf, that is.

Why?

Well, the recommendation to consumeample carbohydrates at breakfast is due to

the fact that glucose tolerance, insulinsensitivity, and your ability to processcarbohydrates are at their peak in the

morning. Basically, your body is primed to“handle” carbohydrates quite well during

the first few hours of the day, but thatability tends to decrease as the day goes on.

So where doescoffee fit in?

Well, quite a few studies have shown thatcaffeinated coffee intake (along with

carbs) decreases glucose tolerance andinsulin sensitivity, sabotaging yourgenerally “good” ability to process

carbohydrates in the morning.
