Effects of Chronic Illness

Applying to Chronic Illness

• The Principles of Success are still as useful• The Principles of Success don’t need to change• It is our expectations that need to change• Acknowledge any “moving towards” actions• Celebrate all outcomes achieved• Evaluate and re-evaluate• Journal or keep notes

to do?”

Keys to an Achievable Outcome

7. Is it appropriately contextualised? “Where, when, how, and with whom do you want

it?”

8. What resources are needed?“What do you have now, and what do you need to

get your outcome?” “Have you ever had or done this before?” “Do you know anyone who has?” “Can you act as if you have it?”

9. Is it ecological? “For what purpose do you want this?”“What will you gain or lose if you have it?”

“What will happen if you do get it?”“What won’t happen if you do get it?”“What will happen if you don’t get it?”“What won’t happen if you don’t get it?”

PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER

Example

• It is 17 February 2012 and I am down the beach with my dog Sam. We have just finished a one hour walk and I am feeling fantastic. My new shorts and t-shirt are size 12 and I look so good in them. I am enjoying the sand between my toes, the sea breeze in my hair, the smell of the salt water and the sound of the waves as they crash against the shore.

Where to from here?

• Start today, start small• Ensure the first step is specified & achievable• Be prepared for the challenge• Make a commitment to follow through• Answer questions - write down answers• A state (eg, happy) is not a goal• Track success, failure & gratitude
