Five Common

Contact Lens

Mistakes

99% of contact lens users in the United States reported

regularly making at least one risky or unsafe behavior

that can seriously increase their risk of discomfort

or eye infection. If you don't want to be a part

of that statistic, take a look at this list of

the most common contact lens

mistakes!

SleepingSleeping in your contacts can lead to irritation,

discomfort, infection, and prevents air from

reaching your corneas. Be sure to take them

off before you go to bed!

Swimming or

Showering

Contacts will absorb water, which

can increase your risk of exposure

to the Acanthamoeba bacteria,

which can cause serious

infections and blindness.

Washing with

Tap Water

Washing your contacts

with tap water can also

increase your risk of

exposure to

Acanthamoeba. And

because your contacts

absorb water, washing

them in water may cause

them to change their

shape and thus lose their

effectiveness.

Using Lenses Past their Expiration

Old contact lenses can accumulate germs and old proteins from

cleaning solution, so using old contacts that have expired can

increase your risk of infection and irritation by attaching germ-

ridden contacts directly to your eyes!

Replace the Case

Lens cases can also become

a breeding ground for germs,

so be sure to clean them with

solution once a day and

replace them once every

three months!
