HIPSTER COOKBOOKS

5 of the best

By Alaris Kitchens

Chefs of the world, unite! If there’s nothing you love more than spending your weekend in the kitchen, cooking up a storm for friends and family, then we just know you’ve got hundreds and hundreds of cookbooks littering your bookshelves.

But there’s always room for a few more, right? And with new up-and-coming chefs making names for themselves, it’s completely understandable that you’ll want to give their recipes a go.

With that in mind, we thought we’d have a look around to see which of the hipster-inspired cookbooks are the best. Here are five of our very favourites for you to peruse at your leisure. Read on, dear friends, read on...

EGGMichael Ruhlman • Rethink the egg

In this worthy tome, award-winning chef

Michael Ruhlman explains exactly why the

egg really is the key when it comes to

cooking. The book covers everything from

whole, broken, yolk, white, in the shell, out

of the shell… You’d never have known you

could do so much with just an egg.

It's perfect for beginners and advanced

cooks, giving everyone a greater

appreciation for the humble egg.

You might have heard of Sean Brock. He is the head chef at the

world-renowned Husk restaurant in Charleston in the US, after all.

This particular cookbook takes the southern cooking crown, that’s for sure. The photography is amazing,

the storytelling second to none and the recipes…

Well, let’s just say expect slow-cooked pork shoulder, pickled shrimp and chocolate Alabama

stack cake to all become a part of your staple diet in the future.

Alex hoffler and Stacey O’Gorman show you just what can be done with meringue mix - and

it’s a revelation!

Give it a go this weekend and see what we mean. Definitely one for

the sweet tooths out there!

MERINGUE GIRLS

COOKBOOK

This is the companion book to show Portlandia, from Fred Armisen and

Carrie Brownstein.

There are 50 recipes to try out that define the

show, from pickled veggies and stews to foraged green salads.

Are you a fan of breakfast? What are we saying? Of course you are!

It’s oft described as the most important meal of the day and if you firmly believe that then you need Zoe Nathan’s Huckleberry

book in your life.

Give this cover star - fresh blueberry brioche - a go first of all. It’ll revolutionise your mornings,

we promise!

Just don’t forget about the other delicious recipes found inside

either...
