The term Pollution means the introduction of abnormally high concentrations of harmful substances to the natural environment.

It causes discomfort or harm to living organisms and the ecosystem. It makes the environment unsafe , unhealthy and is hazardous to the welfare of the organisms living in that environment .

Pollution is often a result of human activities, but it can occur naturally too.

INTRODUCTION:

The substance or agent which contaminates the environment is called a pollutant.

It can be a foreign substances or energy, induced into the environment by humans or it can be a naturally occurring substance. When the presence of any natural substance exceeds the normal levels, it is considered as a contaminant.

Some common pollutants are Automobile exhaust fumes ,Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs)Etc.

POLLUTANTS :

TYPES OF POLLUTION:1) Air Pollution- The atmosphere is a mixture of various gases and acts as a protective blanket around the earth. It is the basic life support system of our planet. However, the air around us is getting polluted day by day, causing discomfort and harm to humans and other livingorganisms. The depletion of the ozone layer in the stratosphere has become athreat to human health and the Earth’s ecosystem.

EFFECTS OF AIR POLLUTION:

2) WATER POLLUTION- Water pollution is the contamination of water

bodies. This form of environmental degradation occurs when pollutants are directly or indirectly discharged into water bodies without adequate treatment or removal of harmful compounds. Water pollution affects the entire biosphere-plants and organisms living in these water bodies.

EFFECTS OF WATER POLLUTION:

3) LAND POLLUTION-Land pollution, the deposition of solid or liquid

waste materials on lands or underground in a manner that can contaminate the soil and groundwater, threaten

Public health, and cause unsightly conditions and nuisances. When mining sites are abandoned after excavation work is complete, deep scars are left behind, causing severe land degradation.

EFFECTS OF LAND POLLUTION:

4)NOISE POLLUTION-Noise pollution or noise disturbance is the

disturbing or excessive noise that may harm the activity or balance of human or animal life. The source of most outdoor noise worldwide is mainly caused by machines and

transportation system, motor

vehicles, aircraft , and trains.

Poor urban planning may give rise

to noise pollution, since side-by-

side industrial and residential buildings can result in noise pollution.

EFFECTS OF NOISE POLLUTION:

5)RADIOACTIVE POLLUTION- Radioactive contamination, also called radiological contamination, is thedeposition of, or presence of Radioactive substances on surfaces or within solids, liquids or gases,

where theirpresence is unintended or undesirable.

EFFECTS OF RADIOACTIVE POLLUTION:

Thermal pollution is the degradation of water quality by any process that changes ambient water temperature .

A common cause of thermal pollution is the use of water as a coolant by power plants and industrial manufacturers When water used as a coolant is returned to the natural environment at a higher temperature, the change in temperature decreases oxygen supply and affects ecosystem composition.

6)THERMAL POLLUTION-

EFFECTS OF THERMAL POLLUTION:

THERMAL POLLUTION OF WATER BY POWER PLANTS

7)LIGHT POLLUTION-Light pollution, also known as photo pollution

or luminous pollution, is excessive, misdirected, or obtrusive artificial light. Light

pollution is the alternation of light levels in the outdoor environment due to man-made sources of light. Indoor light pollution is such alternation of light levels in

the indoor environment due to sources of light, which compromises human health.

EFFECTS OF LIGHT POLLUTION:

Visual pollution is an aesthetic issue and refers to the impacts of pollution that impair one’s ability to enjoy a vista or view. Visual pollution disturbs the visual areas of people by creating negative

changes in the natural environment. Billboards, open storage of trash, space debris, telephone towers, electric wires, buildings and automobiles are forms of visual

pollution.

8)VISUAL POLLUTION:

WELL I WOULD LIKE TO THANK MY

GEOGRAPHY TEACHER FOR GIVING US A

LOVELY PROJECT TO DO…… I GOT TO KNOW A LOT ABOUT POLLUTION , ITS EFFECTS AND MANY MORE… I WOULD ALSO

THANK MY PARENTS FOR HELPING

ME…… THANK YOU EVERYONE….
