ACTIVITY 4: KEEP IT COLD

PREPARED BY: THE GROUP 4

WHAT IS RADIATION?

•The transfer of energy from

the sun across nearly empty

space is made possible by

it.

•All objects even ordinary

one gives off heat into

surroundings.

OTHER MEANINGS OF RADIATION:

•Energy that comes from a source in the form of

wave or rays you cannot see.

•A type of dangerous and powerful energy that

is produced by radioactive substances and

nuclear reactions.

•The combined processes of emission,

transmission, and absorption of radiant energy;

the transfer of heat by radiation.

NOTE:

ALL OBJECTS EMIT AND ABSORB RADIATION ALTHOUGH SOME OBJECTS ARE BETTER AT EMITTING OR ABSORBING RADIATION THAN OTHERS.

THE LABORATORY ACTIVITY

THE SITUATION:

One hot sunny day, Cobi and Mumble

walked into a tea shop and each asked for

an order of iced milk tea for takeout. The

crew told them as part of their promo their

costumers can choose the color of the

tumbler they want to use, pointing to the

array of containers made of the same

material but are of different colors and

Cobi favoured the container with

a dull black surface, saying that

the milk tea will stay cooler if it

is in a black container.

Mumble remarked that

the tea would stay even

cooler if it is in a

container with bright

shiny surface.

MATERIALS NEEDED FOR THE EXPERIMENT:

•Milk tea

•Laboratory thermometer

•Tumblers/Containers(Dull black

and Bright shiny)

PROCEDURES:1. First, prepare the containers.

2.Fill up the containers with the milk tea.

3.And put the containers on the area

where sunlight can strike through.

4.And put thermometers on both

containers.

5.And measure the temperature every 5

minutes.

CONCLUSION/GENERALIZATION:

We therefore conclude that,

the lighter the object the longer

that the longer that it can keep

the milk tea cold because a light

color doesn’t absorb much

radiation than black.
